So I reserved my iPad the first day that you could. All of the sudden on Saturday my wife decided that she would rather have an iPad than a new iMac that she was saving up for. Of course I go online and see that they just yanked down their reservations page. I am wondering if they will stock more iPads than they have reservations for. I know they plan on selling the ones people don't pick up at 3pm but I am wondering if we show up about 6:30am to get in line if they would have more than just what was reserved.

I would either get there really early and stand in two lines, or if you don't want to do that, press your luck a bit and go early afternoon. Apple said you have until 3 PM to pick up, so if you swing by then you should be able to pick up your reservation and hang around for no-show iPad to be released.

Or there could be plenty and not be a problem.

I am sure lots who reserved won't show up either, so you will have picks after 3 from those.

I do think they will be very hard to find after that, other than ebay for more than one wants to pay.

If I was a betting man I would say Apple will have more than just reserved units at the stores. They probably saw the ratio of number of iPads reserved was getting too high compared to number of units available so they stop taking reservations.

Apple is a marketing machine, the last thing they want is someone walking off the street to be disappointed.

+1

I know a couple of people who reserved a Wifi and also pre-ordered a 3G, and they're not going to make up their mind until sometime before 3 pm on the 3rd.

Yea we are probably going to get there about 7am and hope for the best. If they are empty, we can swing by the Best Buy down the street and then come back to line up for 3pm for a chance at the no-shows. If she had just listened to me and reserved one the second they became available like I did, we wouldn't be having this issue. No way I am sharing, she is going to have to get her own.

Plants vs Zombies HD!!!

Obviously, when you pick up the one you reserved, you should ask the Apple employee nicely to let you buy two. They will know then whether or not there are enough on-hand for non-reservers. No reason you should have to make two trips or stand in two lines.

Since you'll be in the store getting yours, just ask if you can buy a second one. They'll either say "yes" or "no," but it can't hurt to ask.

Yeah that's what I would do :).

thanks everyone. She did this to me with the first iPhone too. I waited in line all day to get mine but she didn't want one because she didn't like "all in one" devices. Until she saw mine. The next day we were at the Apple Store getting her one. Now you can pry her 3G out of her hands.

She's a woman of taste. Something tells me that you should have anticipated this very situation and reserved two to begin with. ;)

I thought there will be two lines, one for walk-ins and one for reservations? If so, he should stand in one line and his wife in the other line. And yes, get there early.

i'm interested to read people's thoughts on this, as i am slowly but surely being drawn into the pre-release hype. i am strongly considering showing up on saturday to wait in line (for a non-reserved unit), but wonder if it will be worth the trouble considering the stock in that specific store, as well as the number of people who will show up like myself.

That would make sense. Since each store knows how many reservations they have and how many units they're getting, there's no sense keeping walk in's locked out until 3pm. Have two lines, one for reservation and one for walk in's. You divvy up the inventory so that all reserved iPads are set aside. At 3pm, those reservations not picked up open up to those still in line for walk in.

yes, for first come first served walk ins.

all I can say is that there MOST CERTAINLY be people empty handed on saturday, and a large wave of WHERE CAN I FIND THE iPad on the following weeks.

just think of the Wii.

the wii was just a couple hundred dollars, didn't have a pre-order, and appealed to both children as well as adults.

the iPad is over $500 (at the very least), had a 3 week pre-order period, and appeals to an older crowd.

I would have to say that they aren't even comparable.

anyways you'll see my thorough-minded archnemesis.

Bullcrap. I'm in college and I know lots of people who are getting iPads. Yes, even some of my professors are getting in on the action. It appeals to lots of different people. My little sister is looking into getting one this summer and my grandpa is also.

As for the OP, just tell your wife to wait until next year and she can have your old one and you can get the new one. Haha, thats my plan!

But if she must have one, then I bet you could get one at an Apple Store. Your best bet is to have her line up at Best Buy early in the morning as they will only have 15 while you wait for yours at the Apple Store. If Best Buy runs out, the Apple Store should have some. I've read about a lot of people who reserved two different sizes because they weren't sure which size to go with, even though they only wanted one. I almost did this myself because I couldn't decide between the 32gb and 64gb. Granted, you might not have your pick of the sizes, but whatever. Good luck.
