My cd drive was noisy from day one, but I didn't know any better, I thought that was just the noise it made!! It's gotten rotten as of late, grindy, very noisey. Today, it wont eject. It doesn't show that there is anything in there for me to eject!!! HELP!!

Rebecca
I have an extended warranty...but you can imagine I'm feeling pretty "UG" about having to lose it for untold weeks, no to mention the possible ill intentions of person fixing it!

Restart your machine and hold down the mouse button until you see the desktop. Hopefully it will eject the disk. Once its out take your machine to get it looked at.

If it doesnt come out get it looked at but be careful when transporting it with a disc inside as it can get dislodged and do some real damage.

If you go to an Apple Genius Bar and ask nicely they may lend you a machine while yours is being fixed. It doesnt always happen though.

Not sure what you're asking me to do. I tried that after I restarted and nothing happened. I tried it while it was restarting and nothing happened. Is something supposed to pop up? My husband created a login screen so we can both have our own desktop; could this be why your idea doesn't work?

I have now restarted twice..it still doesn't know there's a disc in there.

As soon as your mac turns off as part of the restart, hold down the mouse button and keep it held down until you get to the desktop or in your case the login screen. If you are lucky the disc will eject before you get to the login screen. If it doesn't then you will have to take it to an Apple Store to get it seen to. Either way I would get it seen to as it sounds pretty much kaput.

If you bought it from BestBuy you can still take it to an Apple Store as its under Apple Warranty.

That didn't work; I think it never worked well, I've only used the drive a few times, this is why I've had it 7 months and didn't take it back right away.

Thanks for your help. I guess I'll be making a trip after the new year!

hmm. well, that could work if the mac recognized that there was something in the drive...but it doesn't. I will try your idea anyway.
thanks,r

If none of the above work, try opening terminal and entering the following command:

drutil tray eject

Good Luck :)

If you bought it new just 7 months ago, it will still be covered by the original Apple warranty, regardless of where you purchase it from.
