won't read file extensions

I just switched from Windows and quite confused. After transferring files from my PC, I cannot open pdf or bmp files. Help?

I just switched from Windows and quite confused. After transferring files from my PC, I cannot open pdf or bmp files. Help?

BMP and PDF files can be opened with Preview. Right click on such file, and select OPEN WITH to get a choice of applications.
