so this program ( http://www.journeyed.com/itemDetail.asp?ItmNo=16721571R ) says that it won't work on intel macs.

so basically, what i want to know is: does rosetta just not work for every single program intended for non-intel machines? or will this program work and they just don't want to be responsible for laggy slow performance?

It does not work at all. Our college licensed it out and I was wondering why it would not work on my machine.

Apple pointed out the exceptions from the beginning for Rosetta... the major thing is that if an application requires G4/G5 features such as Alti-Vec -- e.g. does not have an alternative system in place that it can use when Alti-Vec is not available -- it will not work in Rosetta.

SPSS hasn't been clear about why their software won't work on Intel Macs -- they just say that they get calculation errors. But then SPSS 11 and 13 are such creaky programs... God knows what they were compiled with or how they were designed. They claim that SPSS 15 will resolve this; I hope that the release of SPSS 15 is actually a good piece of software! They should follow the lead of NeoOffice and try to create a back-end that they can use on all Unix-esque OSes and then just add a Mac front end to it.

thanks for the replies.

spss was a bit laggy in the old mac lab (now a[nother] dell lab) on campus. i type so fast that it would just skip data slots. i'd purposely have to type slower just so all the data would get entered. i do wish they'd come out with an intel-compatible program soon (before i'm done with my masters), because i'd much prefer to do this sort of work from home.

It's painful for me to recommend it... But does your school do the "at home site license" discounts for Windows XP or Vista? I would really come very close to recommending that you just stop waiting for them (In some ways, SPSS makes great software in the sense that they're easily the most usable statistics software for intermediate users, but they're sooo frustrating). I would consider just getting Bootcamp, Windows, and the current SPSS/Win.

On the SPSS website they say:
"SPSS 15.1 for Mac OS X will be fully compatible with the Intel©-based Mac hardware and is due for release in the summer of 2007."


So if you can wait......


Edit: i use Prism for stats since it handles quite a lot of functions, but then i don't do any really complicated stats in my analysis.

Oh man SPSS, I wish there was a workaround to this. I have to use WinXP as mkrishnan recommended. Here I'll pm you abit of help

yeah, I really wish SPSS would release the Universal version soon...it's such a pain to go to the lab to use it.
