No problem.

Im purposely not getting leopard until it gets like 4 updates. Dont want my MacBook exploding now, do i?

But yeah, i see your point.

But since its not 2GHz and i dont need 64 bit processing nor 802.11n, I'll be fine for now.

I will be missing out on the X3000 though...*sigh* at least its cheaper

Also, since my dad's using it, he's installing XP on it. Free xp for me :p

Not just too bad, Tragic. Congrats. In two months that will be 2 generations old and look like an antique. Plus you skipped the 4MB L2 cache you get with 2GHz C2D and up.

I apologize if this reads like I am trying to beat you up. I'm not. But you really need to reevaluate if that will be enough for you in the face of new ones coming out with Santa Rosa graphics and Leopard and iLive '07 on board by June. I'm trying to warn you. Not hurt your feelings. Trying to help you see what radical change we are going through this Spring. :(

if he bought it from the refurb store, he did so for $799. the savings over a hasn't-even-been-released santa rosa macbook might be worth it for him. not everybody needs 64-bit computing, and not everybody will care for gma x3000 or nand flash caching. for $799, i think a core duo macbook is a good deal. to the op, congrats on your purchase!

I Agree $799 Is A Great Deal

I agree $799 is a great deal. Glad you know all that. Be happy with your free XP. That's awesome. Free XP. I didn't know about that part. You'll be humpin' in PC XP Heaven. Fantastic. :)

What is wrong with you? Let him be happy about his MacBook...Even though it will be a generation or two old in a few months, it will still do everything he needs it to do.

Technology is changing all the time. There will always be something better coming out so people should never regret what they buy, because if they do they will always be "regretting".

Congratulations on your MacBook...

The reality is that unless you're Steve Jobs or Jonathan Ive, and you're sitting at home right now using a not-yet released Mac computer, you're using a soon-to-be obsolete computer. The day you walk out of an Apple Store, beaming with joy while carrying a just-released top of the line computer, you are carrying a soon-to-be obsolete product.

There's no way to future-proof your purchases. So if the OP needed the computer now, scored a good deal on it, and it meets their needs ... good for them.

Congrats on the MacBook ... enjoy!

Congrats! That's exactly the MB model I'm convincing my friends to get who are on the fence about switching, but would with the cheapness (price not quality :))of that refurb.

Seriously, quit being a downer. Wait for your octo mac pro and let the people who don't need the latest and greatest processing power to themselves. Perhaps they are waiting for the newer releases and this is filling them in or they are seizing the refurb prices to own a macbook for 799?(like I am, with the same macbook as the op). Who cares?

I realize you paraphrased it by saying you're not trying to "beat him up" but it seems like every time someone buys a lesser computer here, you are on saying how they don't have the latest and greatest. This I encountered by researching my latest purchase, a 1.83 MB CD (the horror :)).

To each their own and I am quite happy with my 1.83 MB CD.

For 799, I agree with the OP. Every time I would talk myself into the higher level MB's, I would try to justify their expense and couldn't. This includes wireless N not being the bottleneck in internet surfing, C2D only being ~10% faster then a CD and the 2MB L2 cache only coming into play with the 2 GHz and up (which I don't need a DVD burner, as my mac desktop has).

I understand how its hard to convey how one comes across in words on the internet but to me, you seem like an arrogant person who only respects the latest piece of machinery.

Why not? I'm a Demi and if I posted such a disgracefully mood-breaking post - even if it were done in the name of supposedly "keeping it real" - I would expect some serious comeuppance.

Multi, what a crappy useless post that was, some kid is all excited and you go and burst his bubble by reminding him he's not living on the cutting edge. Who the hell cares? If the OP really needed bleeding edge he'd know all about his exact needs, I'd take a CD MacBook right now if it were offered to me or was the only thing I could afford.

Stop thinking that everyone else has your computing requirements (how's that ripping TV episodes going for you?) and just let people enjoy their new toys.

Wow, someone is going to be disappointed this spring, and it's not going to be Mr. MacBook.

For the record, I believe you are confusing Demi-Gods with MacRumors Gods or Moderators. ...Demi-Gods are just users who contribute $25/year to the site, earning them a special title. They do not have any moderating powers.

Congrats on the new MacBook BTW, you're going to love it. :)

I know he could have bought a new machine for an extra $200-300, and that he could have bought an even better machine this June, but if someone was looking for something slightly more cutting edge, they would have bought a MBP.

And besides, some people don't realize that $200-300 isn't "chump change" in everyone's view.

Yeah you're right. I deleted the whole post. My bad.

Wasn't trying to dig at you, just more let the OP know that he didn't make the wrong choice just by buying a CD (depending on his/her use) and that a previous version could still work out great for some people.

Again, the CD and C2D seem to be a personal decision. To each their own.

Then again, if I bought the CD and could utilize the C2D extras, I would be glad you said something.

That said, cheer up, WWDC is around the corner and we are sure to get some sort of update, and all signs point to an octo mac pro :), although Santa Rosa MBP is all I am waiting for to unload my MB on ebay, which peoplo are currently buying for more than refurbished price.

If you ever get up to Seattle, PM me and Ill buy you a beer, or two, or three, lol we have some excellent happy hours up here (ruths chris especially) .
