I am looking to add a word processing app to my MacBook Pro OS 10.10.5. Any recommendations other than MSWord? I wish to purchase an app and not have to pay a lease-type every year. I'm retired and MS is too expensive. I also need the app to work with 10.10.5.

Thanks.

I'm not sure the latest version of Pages will work with Yosemite (10.10.5), however, Open Office and Libre Office as recommended above will work.

I've been thinking long and hard about it, too.
I work with Pages (free of charge and MS importable and exportable).
My privacy is too valuable for Google use. (I have one)

I hate any rental software, so I also purchased the M$ Standalone 2016.
Office 2016 starts much slower than Office 2011. 2011 was unfortunately not updated to 64bit. No wonder, they are Microsoft programmers.

All open office versions work, but after I discovered some ailments again and again, which I had to fix by updates forever, I left this free world.
