There's Notes app built in and there are tons of word processing apps in the App Store including Microsoft Word.

Apple's iWork/Pages is a free download with newly purchased devices, unless you got a used one.

There are a lot of choices in the appstore. Many free.

 

[Max(IT)]

Pages is available for free and it's quite good.
