There are a LOT of cool video changes, esp for those that have multiple monitors...but one of the more interesting changes is that one can no longer run "Ultra" graphics...there is a big note in red which states "Requires Mac OS X 10.6.5 or above," which is interesting, as it is not even officially released yet that I know of.

The realms themselves are not up yet, so I have not been able to test the new graphics features as of yet, but I was able to get to video settings, where I saw the above message.

I am definitely loving the Windowed (Fullscreen) mode. I just hope these changes dont take a big hit on my framerates.

I have not tried the public beta of 4.0.1 prior to this, so idk this all might be "old" news to some...

i7 iMac Framerate

Another note on this patch:

I patched to 4.0.1 and instantly noted a 75 percent reduction in framerate. The new water effect and the sun spot effect KILL my system (late December '09 i7 iMac). I typically run everything at high and get between 70 and 120 FPS outside and 50+ in Dalaran and 25-mans.

I turned the water particle effect down to low and turned off the sun effect and everything runs great (70+) again.

Just a head's up to anybody that logs and sees WoW in PowerPoint.

Try:

open config.wtf in textedit and add at the bottom:

SET gxapi "OpenGL"

been doing this since WotLK came out or just before, it gets removed every patch, but it always seems to smooth things out.

I found this as well. Although, to their credit, it looks better on good than it used to on ultra...

I am sure once the new OS update comes out it will be back to normal.
That is probably why we cannot select ultra for a lot of the settings because it will kill our FPS.

whats the deal with the text edit thing posted? can you describe what to do more clearly for us non tech noobs :)

I noticed under 'advanced' video settings they have sliders for FPS limits (used to have to set this manually via command line "/console setmaxfps #"). I thought this was a nice option to have, I set mine to 30FPS on my MBP a while back to keep the system cool.

Also, when I logged in this morning I noticed my FPS were all over the place, I started to panic and play around with the settings. Frustrated that I would be playing with less than I had before, I logged off to head to work. Upon WoW closing out I realized to my embarrassment that I was still on the integrated GPU (9400M) the whole time (forgot to switch to dedicated). :)

Has anyone had completely random (so ti seems) stuttering in wow since the 3.X patch, but more so since the 4 patch to the point its unplayable for a second? I know graphics have been boosted and all, however i get the same random stuttering whether i have it on good, high, or low settings! It will drop from whatever 'normal' for the settings say 50 down to 10 or lower, then back up every few seconds. its almsot liek slow motion every time it does it even.

I'm not the only to have had this, tons of people on teh wow boards have tried to figure it out, as well as one of my very close friends. It happens in random places, randomly it seems. From steady XX to 10 or below. I cannot figure this out, at all!

any ideas would be hugely appriciated. ive zapped my pram, smc, tried from highest to lowest settings.. even tried reverting to the older opengl api. I cant stand it anymore :(

mbp 17 unibody, 9600m.

Thanks!

I noticed with all of the changes in the latest patch that this began happening on all of my computers running WoW. As unrelated as it seems, I found it to be a cursor input issue.

Open up Video settings, go to "Advanced" and in the top frame is an option for Hardware Cursor. Try changing that to whatever option isn't currently selected and it should fix your problem. I did this and the stuttering completely disappeared.

i've just finished the mammoth download of the updates all 5.xgb of it - but i've noticed than i can slide the slider all the way over to ULTRA!!!!

runs like sh*te about 5fps but i can still put the slider over!
