Ok...ok...so it's possible that I might be showing some interest in the game(I'm 25 AND a female)...little embarrassed to admit to this...

but...I was told there is a free 10 day trial then you can get a monthly subscription. What I find really is being able to play against other people, not just play the game on my own, so please ignore my stupidity but if I get the actual game through an Apple store, does it mean you also get online access? or would I still be required to get the monthly subscription?

I'm so sorry, I honestly dont know how this works. Appreciate any help.

It's a limited 10 day trial. You get this for absolutely nothing (no CC signup) and you have no obligation to pay at the end of it. Just head to worldofwarcraft.com and the link should be right there.

Or you could find a retailer that sells the trial DVD's (it's like $1-2) because the game is about 7 gig downloaded.

Regardless of where you purchase it, you'll have to pay a monthly fee to Blizzard. If you take advantage of the free trial, you get the trial period free but have a few limitations that really don't much matter. Once you start paying, you have full and unfettered access to the level 1-60 areas (and you can keep the characters you started in the trial), although you will have to purchase the Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King expansions if you want to progress past level 60 or visit the higher-level areas.

By the way, there is no "single-player" mode. You're on-line with everyone else on your server all the time, even in the free trial.

And to help you play the full game quicker:
- Buy the World of Warcraft game box (or Battle chest)
- Do not install from CD's or DVD's, but download directly the Wrath of the Lich King expansion from one of the official sites.

Do not forget that www.worldofwarcraft.com is the American/Australian entry to World of Warcraft, while www.wow-europe.com the European version is. You need seperate accounts to play both. - Your account is not shared on both sites.

I cannot find the installers on the American/Australian site. I think you have to log in to see those, but the European game installers can be found here:

European tutorial for quicker game access:
- Click on either of the installers on the given link above.
- The file will download and when opened, it'll give you a menu. Here you can choose which game & expansions to download.
- Download Wrath of the Lich King, forgetting about the Classic and Burning Crusade.
- Install it and play.

Quick FAQ:

Why installing only WotLK?
- Downloading either Classic or TBC (=The Burning Crusade) will get you to patch 1.x.x or 2.x.x. After downloading, you'll get to update with given patches. Firstly, it'll install patch 3.0.0, then 3.1.0, 3.2.0, 3.3.0, 3.3.2a...
With installing WotLK, you already have patch 3.0.0 and all the content from before the patch. Then you only have to download 3.1.0 etc... patches.
Some patches are quite big (~300 MB), so it can really help installing from the Wrath of the Lich King installer to play quicker.

Can you download the European version and play on the American servers?
- Yes, you can. But they will not be ranked in your server list when you start the game.
In the game folder (/Applications/World of Warcraft), you can find a file named Config.wtf. (/Applications/World of Warcraft/WTF/Config.wtf) This file can easily be opened with TextEdit. You'll find inside some parameters always beginning with the word SET. These are the options layed out in text form. If you change an option in-game, it will be saved in this file.
You can also change other options. One of them is the next one:
SET realmList "eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com"
If you change this to us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com, you'll see the American servers when logging on.
Outside from the instructions in this file, European and American versions of the game are identical. So no need to worry.

You bet I do! Here is a link to my character sheet, but now I'm not online for a while. Just taking a little break. This is my main character I play. It's not the best of the game, but there are worse. It doesn't matter for me though. I just play for fun.

Downloading and installing can take quite a lot of time. Did it just yesterday on one of my macs, took around 12 hours with a 16Mbit connection for a european english client. So installing from the retail disc and then downloading all the required patches might be a lot faster.

So, I'm not sure what part of WoW you were interested in... but in my experience, it is much more fun when you and some of your friends are able to all play together. You'll meet people as you play, too, but knowing people outside of the game helps.

Also, its a bit strange, but the WoW you play while leveling 1-80 is very different from the WoW that is played at the level cap. in the 1-80 range you can quest, and do the occasional instance, all while steadily improving your gear and skills. However, at the level cap, the only way to improve your character is with better gear... so people aim for more and more challenging instances and eventually raids in order to do this. As you might imagine, the amount of cooperation required between multiple players increases considerably at the level cap, and instead of being able to log on quickly and do a few quests, you end up with more scheduled type events where 10 or 25 people are needed to get anything done. Just fyi.

You can only play this game online. There is no offline solo mode.
