Does anyone know of a really really fast web hosting service? What is the best way to tell the speeds of web hosting services? I have tried a couple of the free hosting services, but they all seem so sloooow that I think I am going to try something different. I am willing to pay up to $30 a month to have really fast speeds. One of the companies that I have been looking at is hostgator. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Another HUGE recommendation for ASMALLORANGE.com - absolutely fantastic service, set up, price and speed. Not to mention the free scripts you get to set up any site you could ever want. Great.

ASO is great as noted above...some say they're overpriced but really I think you get what you pay for: less raw stats, amazing support and reliability. With ASO you get less bandwidth and server space for your dollar, but I've never once had the nightmarish problems that I've had with other hosts that provided massive bandwidth and storage. Their customer support really is second-to-none, they've gotten back to me within 12 hours every time I've emailed them and they're quick to post in the support forums.

I've dealt with busy phone numbers and unresponsive email addresses from other hosts (all while they keep billing your credit card, naturally) but not once from ASO. The one problem I had while with ASO they fixed within a few hours and gave me a refund worth two months of hosting.

I can't say really how fast they are, as I use my hosting mainly for developing and putting up prototypes/dummies of websites I'm working on for clients to see. I usually max out my bandwidth when getting or sending files, so it's good enough for me.
