Worried about scratching on MBP

I'm back at uni with my new MBP and I'm worried that having it in a laptop bag is not the safest option for it since I drop the bag on the ground a lot. Not face down but it gets moved around a lot and im just worried. Am I worrying for nothing or should I buy a sleeve for it to carry it in under my arm?

You know those heavy guage aluminum gun briefcases.

It sounds like you need one of those ... since they may be less than the zero halliburtons.

My powerbook (I'm assuming same casing material as MBP) doesn't get scratched up at all. The case is pretty sturdy, but I do take descent care of my equipment. I had originally carried it in a RadTech sleeve, but then decided that it would be fine without the sleeve and just put into the laptop bag.

Then again, the bag I used was a Brenthaven, and I have been able to accidently drop my bag several times without any damage to my PB. If you want to carry it under your arm without a laptop bag, sleeves are nice - not only to protect against scratches, but to give you some grip. Last thing you'll want is to accidently have the MBP slip out from your fingers.

try the monolith from tom binh. it's a sleeve-case, that either slides into a normal size backpack, or can be used by itself with a shoulder strap.

i was looking for the softness of a sleeve, so as not to scratch the outside, but also the protection of a little bit more padding. this is a perfect synergy of the two.

I'd recommend Radtech's Mactruck - yes it's expensive (not halliburton(sp?) expensive though) and you use it incase - which means no scratching getting things in and out of sleeves etc.

I know loads of ppl wouldn't spend US$200 on a case - but considering what our MPB and MB's cost - I don't think it's over-capitalising personally.

I keep my mbp in a marware sleeve inside my chrome bag, which has all my schoolbooks and the like. It gets thrown around, dropped (although not from a distance), and has been all over the world with me without ever having scratches or damage. If you keep your mbp in a sleeve without anything else in it I wouldn't worry about scratching, just dents from dropping it. Or, even worse, internal damage from dropping it.

Does anyone know a good shoulder laptop bag? I saw this girl today with a laptop bag that she put around her shoulder and it seemed made of metal or plastic or something? Does anyone know which one I'm talking about? I'm nots sure if it was a Targus or not.

I highly recommend bags from Tech Air. I have this one and the two main advantages are that firstly they don't look like a laptop bag, and secondly they have this section which is basically lined with a tube of air round the bottom and both sides (reminds me of a cycle tube). I put my MBP inside a Crumpler School Hymn which then goes into the bag, basically giving two layers of protection.

Very highly recommended.

I use a TimBuk2 Messenger bag and laptop sleeve. The sleeve i have they no longer make, but you can get others like it. I like it because of its really think foam sides. It give the laptop a LOT of protection. I once dropped my bag from a tall table (4ft) with my laptop in the sleeve inside of the bag. No problems at all with the laptop. great system.
