Since installing El Capitan, I have noticed on a few occasions that when I wake my iMac from sleep and begin to type my password into the log in window, the keyboard begins to populate the password field on its own. Its as though the keyboard keys are being held down, but isn't. No matter how many tries I have to delete, I always end up powering off my iMac and restarting. Once its restarted its fine. It can then go from working fine, to doing the same again.

Anyone else experienced this or have any idea what it could be?

Try testing with an alternate keyboard...preferably a USB connected one. Just about any keyboard laying around will do.

That will help pinpoint the source of the issue.

I had that all the way through the betas it's happened a couple of times since. I use a bluetooth keyboard to my MBP and I just turn it off and back on again and it's fine.
If you have a wired keyboard, unplugging it and plugging it back in should achieve the same result of stopping it

I don't think it is the keyboard. Its faultless whilst in use, never sticks or anything. Very strange.
That's the thing with troubleshooting... trying an alternate keyboard is the first, most logical step in trying to solve your problem.

I used logic in making the decision that the keyboard has no idea whether I am in Word, Excel or indeed logging in. As the keyboard is faultless within any of these applications except the logging in, I discounted it.

OK. Then try a different computer with the keyboard!

Do you have any peripherals plugged into USB or anywhere else?
