Anyone feel like it performs worse than Mavericks ? It looks like the other unnecessary effects are causing the trouble...also all of the glassiness.

I think i was definitely happier on Mavericks.

I agree. I loved Mavericks, and I really like Yosemite, but there are definitely some issues that need addressing. Heres hoping for 10.10.1 soon.

Whirlygigs vs. Thermometer Bars

It may be a psychological effect of the thermometer bar charting the progress of an action rather than the nonsensical 'whirlygig' (spinner, etc.). I haven't timed the two operating systems side-by-side, but it seems that Yosemite has slowed both my start-up and shut-down times.

Gone are the days of the stopwatch, spinning beach-ball, and hourglass...

That worked for me too, but its still not up to Mavericks levels.

Turning off transparency seems to speed it up.

And here we go do i need to do a 50 additional tweaks to make my system usable ? Linux anyone ?

Nope, you have choice on many interface items and some of them have the side-effect of consuming less CPU etc so can be used to mask other problems or deficiencies with your particular system.

It speeds it up but not by much. I've then them back on as I like the look of the transparency and the dock looks ugly with it off.

Yeah it is too bright and too ugly to work with it comfortably.

My early 2013 is much faster and gets far better battery life than it did on mavericks. Of course, I had to do a fresh install. It ran terribly after installing with software update.
