Worst case scenario when Jailbreaking?

Hello,

I finally made the jump and ditched my Tilt for a 3G iPhone.

I am interested in JB it but just a little apprehensive. What is the worst case scenario if I proceed?

Is there any chance that it could completely trash it to the point that it's 100% useless?

And one other question, please.

What are some sites that lists 3rd JB apps?

There are rumours you can brick your iphone, but I don't think it is true.

Like the OP said , you just need to restore it if anything goes wrong.

Unless you get frustrated and stamp on it or throw it against a wall there isn't anything that is going to be unrepairable when JB :)
 
the common problem is that the phone is stuck or hung on the apple or pineapple logo during the JB process. people may mistakenly think the phone is bricked but usually all they have to do is force restore (e.g. hold the home and power buttons for 10 secs or more) to get out of the hung state and try JB again. as a tip, having many apps on the iphone is usually the reason for the hung state. just backup all existing data, do a clean restore first before JB and run quickpwn or pwnage tool on a barebone phone should prevent the problem. another common source of problem is that iTunes is not up to the latest, so be sure to update the iTunes software too as a precaution.
 
The worst case scenario is that you get stuck at the boot logo and have to restore. There are definitely plenty of ways to seriously screw with your iPhone's OS, but you can always restore back to a virgin state.

To be honest before I jailbroke mine I was so worried about doing it, then after I read up on how to restore it if things should go wrong I was actually enthusiastic about doing it.

You can't brick your iphone as a restore will put it back to it's virginal state :)

So there should be no fears for you whatsoever.

this is true
i just recently lost all my data cuz i jb with too many apps on the phone, and the backup i had made apparently didnt work (it was listed as unknown and didnt save anything). I ended up having to restore and lost everything, but the jb worked fine on my second try when there were no apps installed.

this is caused by a sort of "fail safe" apple had in the software. When the phone is rebooting, the software will automatically restart the reboot if their is no activity for 2 mins. Normally this is not a problem, but after a jailbreak, all of the apps must be read and mapped so the phone can find them. If there are too many apps, this process takes longer than 2 mins, and is restarted over and over indefinantly, until a restore is performed.

If anything goes wrong, a restore will fix your problems
just make sure your backup works before attempting

Your iPhone doesn't jailbreak. To go back to a working condition just Restore it through iTunes and good as new.
