Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll keep it short.

Background
Tried updated to iOS5 failed a few times before the phone stopped working.
(got a message, something like can not restore iphone)

iTunes stopped working.

Used disk Utility. restarted.

DL'd iTunes and installed it again. (Not via update) Still nothing.

Used Disk Utility again.

SMART Failure. Need new HD

I backed up my phone before this happened. (found the files in MobleSync Folder)

Trying to copy all the files to a Back up drive. but i get a -36 Error on many files... so i have to move them manually... and leave behind those with errors... (i'll try and use the UNIX control Panel to move the rest tonight).

Questions

1. If i Use the ipsw to restore my phone on my work computer. Will i loose all my photos saved games...etc?
If so, if i get all the files from my Home Laptop (from the MobleSycn Folder) and put them in itunes on my Work computer, will Syncing then put all my photos and game etc back?

2. Is there a better way?

in a case like that i'd _personally_ just restore the iPhone from scratch and use the iPhone backup explorer to retrieve all my photos.

i always do that with the big iOS version jumps (i.e. 4.3.5 -> 5.0).

i prefer a clean restore over text message histories and savegames.

I have not updated yet, waiting till alot of these issues get sorted out, and for the servers to cool down a bit. But, I was thinking it might just be easier to wipe my phone back to as it was when I got it from VZ 4 months ago, then do the update, and then reload my apps and such. I don't keep my pics, or message history on my phone anyway.

If I do that, will I just be able to connect my phone back to my Macbook, running 10.6 by the way, and reload the apps?

Thx.

What is iPhone back up explorer?

I can live with loosing the game saves... but if this can bring back my photos, that would work for me.

Thanks... looks like a good program.

but my phone doesn't show up. is that because it is still in recover mode?
Are you saying i need to Restore, Then run this program to find my files on the phone?

----------

just tried recboot, no luck.

So if i we to restore on my work machine, and if i were able to copy all my back up files from my laptop. (which might take a day or so safely)...

Can i move my back up files to my work machine, and restore again giving me all my photos back?

the iExplorer doesn't browse your phone but it's able to open and browse the Backup file on your local harddrive. The one that iTunes regularly makes.
