That's happened to me once a month or so ago, it's probably a bad graphics chip. But that doesn't describe my incident, it happened in the middle of using my Mini, restarted and it was fine since. Only occurrence since owning the Mini on release day in 2011.

Mini server connected to a Vizio LED HDTV via HDMI.

Take your Mini in, if you can't get it to back up let the geniuses know and they might swap the HDD's for you. Might being a keyword.

Non of this happened to me.

So, tell us about the MacMini, such as how much ram you have installed, and what programs have you downloaded/installed to name a few questions.

MacMini 2011 / 16 GB or ram.Gskill / 5400 rpm hdd / Dell U2412M 24 inch monitor

Havent had that on my 2.5 i5 mini before.

The only advice I would have before taking it to an Apple retailer would be to make sure that all your applications are set in the same resolution as your native. This caused me a few problems until I realized this.

Good luck!

First off let me say I don't know anything about macs, because I'm a PC user.

However, in the world of PCs I'd claim either what qCzar said about a failing gpu, or (and I'd say it looks more likely) that your GPU is overheating to the point of crashing your entire system.

Could the vents have become clogged with dust etc etc?

Or maybe you just have it on too long doing gpu intensive things (I was considering a mini for 3d modelling in modo - now I'm curious as to whether it'd cook the thing :D)

Chief :)

This happens to me when I have an app that is open (and can even be minimized onto the dock) that runs at a different resolution than native. If the computer goes to sleep, or if I switch between users I the system looks to freeze. I did find that it was not freezing, but just no displaying the information from the computer to the monitor making it look frozen. I can use shortcuts to reboot and all comes back. I just make sure the typing program that causes this is closed after use and all seems fine.

Happened to me yesterday. hmm not happy.
