you know what i want in a computer? something i can turn on, and start using.
windows doesnt provide you that.
you have to wait for everything to load.
then, you have to wait while it scans your computer for viruses and other stuff.
when i installed service pack 2, everytime i started up, i got a message reading "windows has closed the following programs to protect you from your computer: generic hst process for win32 services. there were about 25 of these to click through each time i started up before i could use my computer.
then, when you get through that gauntlet, you had to go online to check your email. simple, right? wrong. click on firefox, opens.....either, pages took 10 minutes to load on a 1MB connection because of all the security / junk, or a network connection could not be detected. more bizarre error windows.
then, i wanted to create, for example, a report for school. again, simple task. but noooo, i click on word. takes 10 minutes to load. gives me an error message or two for good measure. then, clippy the office paperclip, the love child of the most annoying thing on the planet, the crazy frog, and the "creative minds" of microsoft's ents department. it tells me it thinks im writing a letter. i wasnt responsible for my actions most of the time that happened.
the same can be said for 90% of the applications i worked with.
it took me about 10 minutes to prepare myself for gettting ready to start work, on average.
windows slowed down incredibly over time.
then, on shutdown, it makes all sorts of complaints.
i have to re-install windows every couple of months to keep things working.
i have to re-install windows on all the machines in my family's house every once in a while, again, just to keep the working.
it is IMPOSSIBLE to get anything done.
and that, friends, is why i wanted to switch when the oppertunity of a new computer came.
maybe it was just my computer. but it seemed to happen every where i went. and my mac hating friends, even though the reasons were blatantly staring them in the face, still chose to grin and bear their windows machines, and put up with the frustrations.
the fact of the matter is, i use OSX to manage my digital life, and its good at it! but OSX cant do it all (yet.) so occasionally, i have to use windows. but thats ok. it really is. but i dont think i will ever get a machine that cant run OS X. ever. again.
thanks for listening to the rant.
