Worth Buying To Upgrade?

Hey guys!

This popped up on my local CL for $650 OBO:
Early 2009 MacPro Server. 2.66GHZ Intel Xeon Quad Core Processor, 16GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB SATA 3.0 7200RPM Drive, NVIDIA GeForce 120 Graphics with single DVI port and Display port capability.

Is this the same as a 4,1 Mac Pro? Is it worth the asking price? I'm looking to spend about 1k to 1500 upgrading, specifically for a better video card.

Not a bad price, but I'd be skeptical about this being a"Server" version of the Mac Pro. Take a look at Everymac - http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/index-macpro.html

That said, it's the right CPU and GPU to be a proper 4,1 - which is pretty much the same as the 5,1. Could upgrade to six core Xeon 3680 CPU and GTX 680 GPU and have a pretty nice machine for what you want to spend.

The 2009 is the 4,1 model. You can verify by looking at the label on the back near the PCIe slots.

It all depends on your goals and expectations.

But the 2009, 2010, and 2012 models are very upgradable and fun to work with IMHO.
