Im EVERYWHERE!
Hi,
Is it worth it to buy office for the mac or is there a new version coming out soon which i should wait for? and when is it coming out? thank you

Office isn't really worth it anyway unless you;
A. Need to collaboorate on documents with Windows users, and/or
B. Are a student and can get it cheap

I don't have it, but Pages gets pretty good reviews here, and it's far cheaper. if you don't need spreadsheets, it would be fine.
NeoOffice is good (I use it), if a bit slow to load, and it has almost all of the features that Word has.

If you're set on Office, wait until the Universal Binary version is out, which could be any time, but is likely to be a couple of months at the least. In the meantime you should try out the free alternatives.

Neooffice works very well (got to neooffice.org) I believe they have a revision coming out at the end of August as well. I have it installed on both G4 and Intel Macs. Even though they load a little slow, the actual user expreience has been great for both the "Word" and "excel." The "powerpoint" does not have many templates, but it loks like you can add them as needed.

Personally, I would wait until the Universal Binary version comes out. In the meantime, you can use alternatives already mentioned, such as NeoOffice.

Won't that be a while? They're not going to release Office for Mac before the new Office for Windows, which won't be released until Vista is released.

So, if you need it, find a way to get the education version for cheap, and then buy the new version in a couple of years if you want it.

I agree. Wait until the UB comes out. Although that version of Office will be a huge memory hog. Just like the Beta Office 12 for windows. I wish Apple would create an excellent alternative to Office. Then I wouldn't have to "buy" office. This could then be incorporated into iLife and iWork. Isn't NeoOffice based on X11? I'm not a big fan of X11.

edit: I guess it's in Beta for Aqua. Good for them. I may have to download it and give it a whirl.

The newest beta of NeoOffice incorporating Aqua is due for free download on the 29th August (at the moment you are asked to pay to get early access to the beta). I would give that a go first before deciding whether to buy Microsoft Office or not.

Personally I would hold off until a Universal Binary of Microsoft Office is released if you really want to go for the Microsoft option.
