Our adult daughter has a MacBook A1534 - Retina 12" 2017 that will no longer boot. We took it to an independent repair shop which said that they would replace the logic board for 5000 baht, or about US$143.

That's considerably cheaper than replacing it with a M2 13" MBA (8/512) at about US$1200.

But I'm quite wary of spending any money at all on an obsolete Intel machine that won't run Sonoma or after.

That said, about all she used it for is watching YouTube and other videos, which it did quite well.

So, your opinion please: fix it or dump it?

How much is the price for that MacBook in Thai secondhand market? If much higher than 5000 baht, maybe you can fix it, reset and sell it.

if you can fix it, MB is a quite nice machine.
