So I have an Amazon Firestick running: Prime, Netflix, Apple TV, Disney+, Paramount, Discocery+, Premier Sports, Superleague, BBC, ITV, C4, Viaplay, C5.

I know very little about Apple TV so the answer to this may be a simple no don’t bother. I’m looking for something that can simplify the interface so I don’t need to go into each app to see either what’s on live (BBC, ITV etc) or recommendations (Netflix, Prime etc). Does ATV do this?

The ATV doesn’t show you what’s on live, to my knowledge. It’ll show what your next episode of a series is on the homepage. Also, recommendations.

Thanks. I guess that’s a slight improvement over the FS.

If that's the complete list of what you want to do on this kind of device and Firestick is doing it satisfactorily, no need to go AppleTV.

You have to want something more than you get with Firestick... such as perhaps apps only available on AppleTV or "walled garden" access to files DRM'd by Apple or pretty rich access to all of your own ripped content (music collection, videos, etc).

Else, you're good as is. I have an AppleTV on every TV in my household. It's a very nice "iPod for a television"(s). But other, cheaper options can run many of the same, mainstream apps like those you listed just as well. Enjoy what you have. If you find you want functionality or apps it can't provide, you might investigate if AppleTV can do those.

I upgraded from FS 4K to ATV 4K. I also have a Sony Bravia TV. ATV has the smoothest sound and video playback of all three devices which are all hardwired with ethernet. As part of my internet package, I get iPTV with local channels and few sports networks in Canada.
For whatever reason, the iPTV app called Helix is not available on Android TV OS but it is on FireOS and iOS. There is a huge difference between the app quality between the last two. On iOS, It’s more responsive, no stuttering, faster channel switching and when I switch to a new channel, it doesn’t start with CC that I have to turn off manually every single time. This experience is what made me keep ATV much more than the “walled garden” despite having many Apple devices.

It sounds like you are in the UK so you could download the Freeview.app.
That has a guide which shows you what's on live at any given time and anything that's on replay or catchup.
It's not going to tell you anything about streaming services however.
It looks like this:

Thread/Matter support is a reason for some folks to switch to AppleTV, and only if its a 2021 or 2022 ATV.

I'm not saying that is enough reason for most folks; but I'm fleshing out the possibilities here.

I think rock-solid app stability & less/no ads make the Apple TV experience wonderful for many to enjoy over the ad-ladden Fire experience.
