iPhone Worth updating my 5s 16gb?

This is my first post as I just purchased my first iPhone yesterday. My 5s 16gb came preloaded with iOS 7.0.3. Is it worth updating to 8.1? I want to jailbreak and install Cydia on it but don't want to use too much space. I'm reading that the current iOS takes about 5.9 gb. Any advice or clarification?
