Would 128GB be enough for both Win7 and Lion installs?

The price point on the 13"/128 is so damn good that I really want to grab it, but I've been sitting on a win7 license that I planned on using if I were to ever buy this machine.

This will be my first mac and from what I understand it's simple enough to run both windows and lion, but I'm kinda worried that 128GB won't cut it for both OS's.

Can anyone weigh in on this?

It really depends on your usage in each OS. If you're going to have multiple applications installed on both sides, probably not. I've got both installed on my 128GB MBA and dont' have a problem, but my Windows 7 install is relatively barebones. I've got the OS, MS Office and a few utilities.

I've got 128GB in my MBP and it has enough room for with a Win7 VM running the exact same applications above. I've got this VM, 40GB iphoto library and some documents with about 20GB free. Unfortunately my itunes library had to go on a NAS due to size.

After that put in apps, photos, music, docs, etc. And you end up with very little space available. I guess if it used as a second computer 128GB works OK, but if it is your main computer, buying the 256GB drive seems like a good investment.

From what I understand, a Lion install is about 18GB and a Windows 7 Install is anywhere from 14-16GB. You are already looking at about 40GB for both installs. Formatted, the 128GB is actually about 121GB. So you will be left with about 80GB for your applications and files. Just make sure you keep your iTunes library on an external or on another machine and you will be good.

NAND Flash Storage is still quite expensive, but is always a good investment for your machine. If you can find any possible way to afford getting the 256GB I would do it. If all you plan to do is basic web browsing and such, a 128GB is more than enough.

There are also reports saying the 256GB drives have faster read/write speeds than the 128GB ones, so you might want to take this into consideration with your purchase. Good luck!

Is this considering the iLife apps? Garageband is a sucker for disk space.

128 requires a ton compromises to fit one OS, so fitting two will be a challenge. It "can" be done but it's not going to be fun.
