iPad Pro Would 64GB be enough for an IPP?

Hey guys,

I've finally decided to integrate an IPP (10.5 due to it's portability) into my workflow for when I'm on the go, but would also like to use it at home at night or when travelling.

I'm currently doubting about which storage size would suit my needs since 64GB might not be enough - but 256GB seems like so much, and therefore was wondering what you guys would recommend.

The IPP would be used for:

• Office apps & mail and web browsing
• Interior design (sketching) and loading projects in CAD
• Listening to podcasts
• Reading my ebooks
• Occasional Youtube/Netflix streaming

It also might be worth mentioning that I'll be getting the cellular version.

From your use case, 64gb looks like it would be enough for you. But I would still recommend going to the 256gb if you can, especially if you plan to keep the iPad for a long time. I went with the 256gb 10.5 even though I will most likely never come close to filling that up, but it's nice to know I have lots of room should I need it in the future.

256 GB is a significant leap over 64 GB. I would just ask yourself do you feel 64 GB would be enough of a minimum storage for you, if you would require more? My thoughts are it's always better to have more storage than less when you need it most.

I use my 10.5" iPad Pro more or less the same as you and I went with the WiFi only 64GB model. However, I do agree with the comments above about going with 256GB for future proof. You would only be looking at an additional $100 for 256GB.

i think for what you do, you could get by. But 64 gb is the bare minimum now. I'd still pay the extra $100 for the 256 and 4 times the storage if I were you. Even with the cloud, Apps add up. And it will future proof your device. Especially if you want to sell it later on.

Me personally? i'm going for the 512 gigs on the 10.5" ipad pro i plan to buy. But then, i ditched my laptop, and travel a lot. I will be editing lots of photos & videos for my travel blog, so for me it makes sense to go for the max. I could probably get by with 256, but I never wanna run outta space while on the road and trying to edit 4k video from my drone.

Better to have the larger storage and not need it than need it and not have it. I went for 256 for that reason.

for an extra $100 you're getting 4 times the storage on a $700 device. I would say definitely go 256

If you are selling it in 2 years or so then you'll be happy you did due to the resale value

If you are keeping it for a long time, then you'll be happy you did as apps and media are probably going to get bigger, with 4K videos probably becoming more mainstream, and picture qualities going up.

64 might be enough, but i would still recommend getting the 256. There is nothing worse than dealing with memory management on your iOS device. Spend the extra $100 now. You will get most of it back when you sell it.

I'm in the minority, preferring not to spend $100 on storage I shall not use. Unless you think you can recoup this amount, in a future sale, when it becomes time to replace the item.

I got myself the same 10.5 iPP and debated exact same question since I also have my 21.5 new 4K retina iMac, and 6s iPhone. I decided to go for 256 storage, even though I probably won't ever fill that much storage up.

I consume the iPad same way as you do; for emails, blogging, online shopping, watching tv/movies. If you can afford the extra expense of 100 bucks you won't regret it. I ponied up cuz I intended to keep this iPad for long long time around until it breaks down. So extra storage was important.

In this case, if you can imagine yourself ever using more than 32 on a regular basis, 64 will not be enough.

I'd say a newer counter argument would be that local storage is becoming unnecessary with cloud services

If your budget has the leeway for the 100 increase, then go go it, because if anyhting that will give you peace of mind knowing you'll not run out of space.

I for one opted for the 64GB model, because my usage patterns were such that I knew 64GB would be more then enough today and years to come.

There is no such thing as "future proof". It is a commonly used term that in a practical sense has no meaning.

But there are reasons for moving up from 64GB to 256. From a capacity standpoint, quadrupling the storage for an additional $100 is a good value (relatively speaking). This is especially important when buying an iPad because of the lack of support for removable media. While there are kludgy work-arounds, they're exactly that... kludgy and workarounds that are not ideal when using the device in mobile situations.

I agree. Based on my past experience with an iPad 3 and specifically how I used it, I knew the 64GB option and WiFi only would suffice for now and some time to come. However, everyone has to weigh their personal usage and future need.

I had the same dilemma, I also use my IPP for interior design business and CAD. I use iCloud extensively with iCloud photos and iTunes Match. In my case I went with 64gb. I had a budget to follow and went with a LTE version. I also have two Macs at home, so it was either more storage or LTE. I chose the latter. and do not regret that decision. Of course if it is your primary device or you don’t utilize iCloud that would be a factor to consider.

I always get the most storage because of downloads and so on, I currently have a 512GB iPad Pro waiting for me at the Apple Store, with iOS 11 coming later this year I think I'm personally going to use more than my current 1st gen iPad Pro's 128GB which I've filled up.

I think anyone can make any size storage work for them. It totally depends on your situation & usage. My ipad is my main device and I travel a lot, so right there my situation is diff than some. My usage is also different. I like to edit photos & videos. Even tho I am grandfathered in an unlimited ipad ATT data plan and use icloud, i still like to always have access to my photos and videos since I travel a lot and dont always have an internet connection. My current ipod with 128gb and my ipad mini are both full. After going back and forth, i decided to go with the 512 gb on the 10.5" ipad pro. It may be overkill, but thats what i thought about 128 gigs...and i wasnt using 4k video on my current devices! So even tho i could probably get by with 256....and save $200...i just felt I would never have to worry with the 512.
