Would a local computer shop reapply thermal grease to a MacBook Pro?

I'm waiting until August to buy mine, but I think a lot of current MBP owners on here would love to know if there's a certain type of shop they could take their MBP to and have the shop reapply the thermal grease? Will normal computer shops do this or no? I know I personally would not feel comfortable opening up my laptop, so I would want a trained professional to do mine.

Some people had mentioned a few stores in the thread responding to the news of the Apple recall, but I think there should be a thread of stores that we know will do this.

I'm sure they will, especially if you want your AppleCare voided. Don't give in to the hype for godsake. I have a Week 12 (this whole "week" thing is BS too) and it's fine, not heat problems. I'm sure I have a perfect amount of thermal grease on my processors.

Find your local "Apple Service Provider", not necessarily your local "Apple Store". IF you type that into Google you'll find a page to type in your zip code and find yours. Mine is my local compusa, I'm calling them today to see if they'll do it. If you're not having problems like the person who posted above than obviously don't get it done, but if you are like me, it might be worth a shot.

Are you sure they even use thermal grease? None of the macs that I have do, it's all that weird square of unidentifiable material on the heatsink (even the ibook G3 I took apart didn't use grease)...

Yes, I would make sure that you bring it to an Apple Service Provider. Although any savvy computer tech should know his/her stuff, I would not trust my MBP in the hands of anyone but someone properly trained to fix my machine.

It has been established that the MBPs use thermal paste in copious amounts.

yes, they do use thermal grease... I've heard it postulated that this was a suggestion by Intel, because all comps with the core duo seem to use it, even though previous Macs used thermal tape.

I would make sure to state that you want a "normal" amount of grease applied, part of the problem is the Apple manual itself calls for the large amount of it.

My local ASP will not do it in store. Because it is under warranty they are required to send it back to Apple. If you want to get it fixed somewhere that is not official then they will probably do it in store, but as mentioned that will most likely void your warranty.

I think I'm going to wait until Apple officially recognizes this (if ever) and then see if I can get something done about it.
