I am a long time tinkerer and Mac enthusiast from Prague, Czech rep. About a year ago, I have turned it into sort of "hobby business" and I now repair Macs on quite a regular basis. I also turn broken Macs into working machines and then sell them. I also sell parts on Ebay whenever I'm not lazy enough.

Recently, I have learned how to safely de-lid the X5xxx series of CPUs for the 4,1 Mac Pro.

I'm planning to buy a stock of X5670, X5675 processors, de-lid them and offer them on Ebay. However, I am planning to provide a 10% discount for the people on this forum if there is interest for that, although it's perfectly ok if you would rather do business via Ebay as there is some protection and I'm just a random dude on some forum . I want to provide them cheapest anyway.

Right now, I have only found de-lidded CPUs from the US. There's no seller in Europe that I'd know of who would offer these CPUs for reasonable prices. There's one German seller who offers a pair of X5570 (Older, quadcore version of the X5670) for about 210GBP including shipping. I have price in mind of about GBP 250 (EUR 350) for a pair of X5670 and about GBP 300 (EUR 420) for X5675. I don't have much idea about X5690 CPUs yet

Let me know if there would be an interest for that. I may also think of setting up some de-liddling service or something as well =)

As one of the few people offering de-lidded CPU's on eBay and elsewhere, I would encourage you to offer either the service or de-lidded processors in Europe. I have had many inquiries from Europe and the barrier is really the shipping cost from the US to European countries. I have tried to encourage someone from Europe to take my process and use it to offer de-lidded CPU's over there as well.

It could be a great thing! I searched a lot someone who could delid X5680 in europe but not found!

I think your prices are a little bit too high, because in ebay you can find a pair of x5675 at 280 euros, so i don't know if the delidding costs 420-280=140 euros?

With 539 euros i buyed a pair of delidded X5680, plus the Allen key, plus the firmware on USB, plus the Artic Silver, plus the chem pad, plus the shipping and taxes from USA to Italy (448+91 euros of taxes!!)

So, my 2 cents are that if you want to compete, you must to have prices less than these!
Good Luck!

You're right. Maybe I have overshot it a little. But still that's approximately the price I'd have to post on Ebay, since in the end I easily end up paying over 17% from the final sale price before the money reaches my hand =( sigh. There's 10% Ebay fee, roughly 3.4% PayPal Fee, then 2.5% PayPal conversion fee and finally by banks also takes roughly 2.5%.

Right now, I did some preliminary calculations for prices outside of Ebay

Matched pairs

X5670 ~300 Eur
X5675 ~360 Eur
X5680 ~480 Eur

Deliddling service would be around Eur 25 per processors including return shipping.

Those prices may actually get lower. I'd get the processors from one guy in UK, but I have already talked to him about 2 months ago if we could agree on a lower price if I bought more units.

What do you guys think? Any feedback is welcome, even on the prices. I don't want to come across as greedy! =)

Yes, costs of ebay/paypal and bank are very high!

You can start with these prices and then you will see the "market decision". Surely 480 eur is less than 539, and if you were here some weeks ago, I'd buy from you eheh

You must insert also an allen key, because it's hard to find, and maybe the thermal past, so you can make a "kit", I think it's a good idea

Getting a pair of CPUs shipped from the US to Europe isn't too costly (done that twice). The dealbreaker for many is rather the import tax that could be avoided with a seller inside the EU.

I'd suggest to offer X5690s as well.

For my 2009 dual processor.

Possibly a third, but this one not delidded. Its for my girlfriends 2009 single processor.
