Would they come out with a better ipod with features and not update the software for the iphone to match those features? Or would they do both..just wondering.

I was thinking they would update the iphone software to match the features, so the iphone doesn't become a apple tv, but their main chunk of income is still the ipod...i wonder

No, I seriously doubt they'd introduce an iPod with newer features than the iPhone and not have a software update. That's not to say I think there will be a software update today necessarily.

Just for discussion: what new features would they put on a touch iPod that we don't already have on the iPhone?

radio, itunes download direct to phone

And could/would they put them on the iPhone?

Obviously not the radio, but maybe internet radio, and/or for stations that have iTunes live listening features. I'm in Florida, but my favorite radio station is a Canadian jazz station I could pick up when I was living in Buffalo.

How about some music visualization that can be affected by the user's touch or with the accelerometer?

If it's a software update (and the hardware supports it), the iPhone will get the same update. If the rumors of an OSX based iPod are true, it's safe to assume that they'll both require the exact same programming. The hardware differences are what could restrict sharing of some of the software.

I'd imagine that the iPhone will have more hardware (camera, phone features, etc) and the iPod may or may not have Wi-Fi (I bet it does since it opens up the possibility for a ton more features). The differences between the hardware will tell you whether or not one will get more/less features than the other.
