I've read countless stories for people having just purchased their MacBook Pro's, only for the 2017 or 2018 models to be released one month later. Apple would then gladly swap out their devices for the respective configurations of the new ones. Would this also apply for the iPad Pro's? I need one for school, but am hesitant since the new ones might be announced within a month.

I know that there might also be a possibility of the announcement being on October, but assuming it is on September, would Apple let me swap out devices, barring any damages or the like?

Within 2 weeks of purchase is what I've heard. Or buy someplace with a better return policy .. Costco? bestbuy?

Best Buy is 2 weeks, and I don't have a Costco membership unfortunately

When does school start? Why is this an essential purchase? ANd not to be THAT guy, but for school you MAY be better off with an OSX laptop instead of an iOS IPP. HS or UNI? Major? Seriously think about getting a laptop and then perhaps the basic 329 ipad as an addon. You may be in the same ballpark cost wise as the new IPPs w/ accessories.

i mean, I appreciate your concern, but I already have a MacBook Air. I've come to enjoy the note-taking and smoothness that the iPad Pro offers over the regular iPad, and would rather much use it than bringing around 3-4 textbooks with me.

You're not going to be able to get Apple to replace a non-defective item outside of the 2 week return window. In light of the known keyboard problems with the 2016-17 laptops, Apple has made some allowances, but the iPad Pro is not known to have issues.

Excellent. Great combination then. I'm going with the IPP myself for all mobile needs but still would require a machine at home for big screen work, editing, multiple windows etc.

Is note taking on the IPP that much different than the 329 ipad? Genuinely curious, I don't know.

It’s just less laggy because the iPad Pro screen refreshes at 120 hz. Personally, I notice the difference more in drawing and stuff, but for note taking either option is great.

Got it. I finally tried note taking last weekend (IPP 10.5) and honestly was a bit underwhelmed. Then again, I'm old fashioned and carry a MoleSkine with a medium tip Space Pen all the time. The Ipad still felt like I was writing on glass, the tip of the pencil felt a bit too hard. I'll have to play around with it a bit more. Perhaps change the nib out or add that 'paper like sticker' to the iPad.

Strangely, I'm OK with writing on my current machine, a thinkpad yoga (I know I know blame apple for their **** keyboards). The stylus on the screen seems different than the iPad stylus. Softer …

Hopefully not.

This is why return policies at retailers continue to get worse - because people abuse it.

Agreed. Don't want to be sanctimonious but this try and buy philosophy is abused too much. There is NO return policy when you buy abroad. Do your research, spend time with the gadgets, read reviews but once you swipe that card .. it's yours.
