My iPad Pro 10.5 arrived 2 days ago, I'm very OCD about marks and scratches on my devices, so since it came out of the box its been sat on my desk and has not been moved, at all. (I've been waiting for my screen protectors to arrive before I move it anywhere). The light caught my iPad today, and just above the home button there are 2 scratches both about 1cm long and once you notice it you can see a 'rainbow' scratch on the screen.

I was just wondering should I reach out to Apple and try for a replacement? I know scratches and marks happen sometimes but I don't see how it could of possibly happened in 2 days just being sat at my desk.

Thanks

You're still within your original 14 days, right? Take it back.

Yep, had it just over 48 hours now, has anyone had any experience arranging a replacement on the Apple website? Is it easy to arrange?

Also thanks for the replies!

Then call AppleCare. That will start a case for you, and may help.
If it is, in fact, a swelling battery, then the 14-day return window is not really a factor. Then, it would be simply a factory part failure, and replacement/repair would be under warranty.

You're welcome. You can send it back for whatever reason right now. They will typically generate return labels you'll have to print up.

I'll give them a call in the morning and see how it goes, if they aren't willing to offer a replacement would I be able to just arrange a return, and then purchase another one?

Yes... but I would wait a day or two. Also, please be aware that if you do get a new one, you risk playing "screen roulette" with the possibility of yellow displays and what not.

I've tried taking a photo of the scratch but I can't seem to catch a good shot, one of the scratches you can only view if the light catches it, the one underneath is deeper, with half the mark having the 'rainbow' effect and then it continues without, both scratches are about 1-1.5 cm long

Can you actually feel those scratches --- moving your fingernail through that area of the screen, etc?
Or, are they completely under the screen surface?

Yeah you can feel them, when you move your nail over it jolts ever so slightly and also makes a kind of 'click' sound

They aren't massive scratches, they're thin, but once you notice them and the Rainbow effect it's impossible not to keep looking

Don't contact AppleCare. Don't treat this like a warranty replacement. You're in your return period, as others have mentioned, so just initiate a return on the website, pack it up, and send it back.

Buy another one through a separate, new transaction.

By returning and rebuying, you don't have to deal with explaining the situation, and you get a new iPad where the serial number matches the one on the purchase receipt.

There's no reason to voluntarily enter the warranty exchange lottery. I bet Apple would tell you to return and rebuy too.

Agreed 100%. I wanted the 256GB model over the 64 GB model, and all I had to do was go back on Apple sales and set up a return. Real simple. Only downside is I have to wait for my other model to show up. All you need is a printer to print out the return label.

When you put it like that it actually makes a lot of sense and sounds a whole lot easier, think I might just do that, thanks!
