Hi,

I want to upgrade my iPhone 2G 2.2.1 to 3.0. What I think I should do are:

1. Backup iphone contents using iTune
2. Use iTune to restore to 3.0.
3. Run redsn0w to jailbreak the phone
4. Restore the iphone content

Would the above work? I particularly worry I will loose all my SMS.

Or, is there a easier way to upgrade my phone that would keep the contents intact?

Thanks.

Worked for me to restore from backup. No issues so far from what I can tell.

FYI: I did use Pwnage Tool though, nor redsn0w.

This'll work if you want to jailbreak, it's what I did with mine. If you just need it unlocked and you already unlocked it with Pwnage Tool you can just press the update button.

instaxgirl,

I pressed Update and my phone is now 3.0. Many thanks.

But I found Cydia is missing, there is any easy way to get it back?
