Would you guys think Google would release an app that syncs Iphone Calendar to Googles.

Probably not. There's a few 3rd party tools that'll sync your iCal to Google's Calendar. Then you can just sync iCal to your iPhone so they are all in sync.

why not just use "spanning sync".. it syncs your iCal to yourGoole Calendar, to your iPhone..

you install it on your desktop though..not on your phone...

Pretty sure you have no idea what you are talking about.

An app that would sync the Calender app with your Google calender would be modifying files outside of its "sandbox," thus violating the SDK rules.

I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. No need to apologize, you've already lost enough dignity. ;)

There are a number of apps that sync iCal's data to Google Calendar already.

SDK = Software Development Kit. I don't think you are thinking of the right terms. It might be against the EULA for iCal or OSX but I doubt it. iCal uses the 'ical' calendar format.. which is used by Google and a number of other companies as it is.

What are you using for a calendar program in Windows? Outlook? iTunes should already sync that calendar to your iPhone if I'm not mistaken.

You just have to initiate an iTunes sync and a google calendar sync to keep them in check. And AFAIK nothing other than goosync.com will allow you to push data OTA to your iPhone but that could be changing.

I guess GooSync is the best example. I have a Blackberry and GooSync works perfectly syncing my Calendar to Google wirelessly.

I checked their website
" iPhone GooSync Client

A GooSync client for the Apple iPhone is due to be released in Q2 2008. "

--Now would plaxo sync wireless.

:)

Read the SDK rules for applications:
http://onemorething.nl/files/iphone_sdk_agt_608_final__wwdc08.pdf

Look at 3.3.4:
An application may write data on a device only to the Application's designated container area, except as otherwise specified by Apple.

That means that if Google were to write an App to do this, it couldn't write data anywhere but inside that app's own .app folder, thus it would not be able to sync the iPhone's Calender.

Unless Apple makes an exception for Google, which I doubt they would do.

What would be the best way to push/sync Google calendar with iPhone via MobileMe? They use Groupwise at work and I found someone that talked about forwarding appointments to a Google calendar then subscribing to the calendar in their Mac calendar app... I have been able to do this and now I see my work appointments on my Mac but I can't seem to figure out how to get them to push through MobileMe... Since I have subscribed to the Google calendar, it shows up in a different area in the Mac calendar and I do not see a way to sync that section through MobileMe...

I know I can go to my Google calendar in Safari but that requires a data connection and special SMS configuration to try to get alarms before upcoming meetings... I would like to just get those appointments into the native calendar somehow :(

The app doesn't have to reside on the iPhone though. Just like the windows app, resides on a windows based PC. This has nothing do with iPhone SDK and more to do with syncing between iCal and Google Calendar, which in turn can get synced to the iPhone via iTunes.. which takes the iCal data and puts it where necessary.

No SDK 'rules' are broken since this isn't an application that is specific to the iPhone.

You cannot currently sync subscribed calendars to MM.

Now you're just arguing for the sake of arguing. These programs already exist.

Mac:

Windows:

The OP was obviously asking for an iPhone app, and you just don't want to lose this argument.

my setup

For anyone that's interested here's my setup that's working pretty well. My wife has a BB and I have the iPhone 3G and I wanted to be able to keep our calendars in sync. I have a google calendar that her BB sync's to via googlesync (bi directional). I did the 60 day mobile me trial, so when I put something on my calendar in the phone it goes up to the "cloud", I then have my iMac at home sync iCal with the cloud. Then I have BusySync sync iCal with my Google Calendar. All bi-directional. So in short

iPhone <--> MM Cloud <--> iMac/iCal <--> Google Calendar <--> Blackberry

Care to read the topic title again?

WILL GOOGLE RELEASE AN APP TO SYNC IPHONE CALENDAR. You avoid all the "SDK VOLIATIONS" by making the app (MADE BY GOOGLE) for the Mac to sync iCal<->Google Calendar. Then iTunes takes care of syncing to the iPhone. You totally derailed the thread with your holier than thou SDK propaganda! The first one is not made by google. The second one, while made by google does not have a mac counterpart.

You missed the whole concept of the read with your nilly willy SDK speaches.

If the OP was interested in whether or not Google will be writing a program that will sync iCal with his calender, why is he posting in the iPhone AppStore section of the forum? He was obviously asking, and I will paraphrase for you since you obviously lack the braincells to figure this out on your own:

"Will Google release an iPhone app in the AppStore that will sync the iPhone Calender with my Google Calender?"

And the answer is: No, unless Apple makes an exception for them on SDK rule 3.3.4. That answers the OP's question. Explain to me how I am wrong, please. Furthermore, explain to me how I have no idea what I am talking about.

I'm confused, this thread is about a native app for the iPhone right? Which I'm also hoping for. No hooking it up to the PC and syncing through iTunes or any other software. I guess that won't happen though?
