i am guessing if you get your imac standard configed, it would come with tiger, and a leopard cd, but i am planning on customizing it, here is what i plan to get:

LOW END 24 inch imac

upgrade processor to 2.8 ghz C2E

upgrade ram to 2 GB

KEEP the hard drive at 320 GB (other wise i would shoot for the high end)

preinstall IWORK on it

i am guessing if you would like an imac customized, it isnt made yet, and when they make it after i order it, they would preinstall leopard because its the official LATEST mac os x version, am i right?

they say that but people get them with tiger AND a leopard install cd

No, if you order from Apple Online Store you WILL get it preinstalled. You won't see the leopard-preinstalled iMacs in stores for another week or so. They generally come with Tiger, and the Leopard upgrade DVD.

I think I kind of understand your logic here but why start with the base 24"? You can get everything you want plus the 500G HD for just $100 more. Just get the 24" with the extreme already built in. It comes standard with the 2GB of ram and adds a bigger HD. It seems silly to go the BTO route when you can just buy off the shelf and get everything you want. I am assuming here (right or wrong) that if you are going to spend $2100 on a computer that dropping an extra $100 for the 500gb HD should not be that big of a stretch.

Yes iMacs from the website now ship w/Leopard

Hi, my name is David S. Welcome to Apple!

David S: How may I help you today?

You: i was wondering if you can tell me if new iMac shipping today

You: have leopard preinstalled?

David S: Yes it will!

You: got it, so if I order one, it wil come with leopard pre installed and a full verision of the os -- ie not an upgrade that would require me to install 10.4 should i ever have to reformat the iMac

David S: That's correct..

You: great

David S: You will have a full copy of Leopard running right when you turn on your new iMac.

go baseline everything and upgrade the CPU for $250 then buy 4gb of ram and 500gb external drive for $600 combined..
