Would I need to pay for iLife'07?

It may seem an stupid question, but when the new iLife comes out, would I need to buy it, or is the update free (if '06 came with my MB)?

If I buy Leopard, will it come with iLfe'07?

Based on Tiger being seperate from iLife 05 & 06, take is as read that iLife '07 will be a seperate product from Leopard. The only way you'll get the two together is included with a new Mac.

i think it would be a smart move by apple to include iLife and possibly even iWork 07 versions with the new OS.
but they wont.
so be prepared to pay for both.

I think iLife should be a free update (if it comes bundled with the Mac it should be), or at least not so expensive.


Making it part of Leopard would be a great thing also.......now I'll have to spend like 300 dlls. for updating my Mac (iLife, Leopard and iWork)

And that's a lot of money for me.....and it's even worst....you need to spend it every year.

Edit: How much would Leopard cost? 125?

You don't NEED iLife '06 or '07.

You want it, and the new bells and whistles.

But you don't really need it.

And Leopard is likely to cost whatever Tiger costs now.. $129 retail?

I know where you're coming from - but you don't have to upgrade every year; many do every other OS or iLife. And the OS is about every 18 months or so now if you want the latest and greatest.

Besides, since it's free on new Macs - and it's a pretty good suite of software - the cash to keep adding the features has to come from somewhere. And the price isn't that steep if you use two or three of the apps. Think of it as very long free trial when you get your Mac and only paying when you want the extra bells and whistles. The current price might be the subsidised one for the upgrade - since every Mac already has it.

This is true, but iLife is always one standard price (not a upgraded and full version) as is the OS. I think this because everyone is "upgrading" as everyone gets mac os and iLife with there mac.

The ONLY time Apple ever did ANYTHING with those coupons, as far as I know, is when the free 10.1 update to Mac OS 10.0 came out.

You needed to go to an Apple Store (one of the very few that existed at the time) or another Apple reseller (I remember going to CompUSA) and hand them one of the coupons to prove you owned 10.0 to get the free update.

Other than that, they've been pretty useless...

Edit: A little more clarification, Apple offers Updates and Upgrades to their software. Upgrades are major products releases, for example Panther and Tiger OSX. Then there are numerous updates that include the smaller fixes that occurr between Panther and Tiger. The coupons are only for Updates and are used by people that dial in and need the CD updates. For those dialing in, it takes too long to download the update, so they can take the coupon to an Apple store and get the CD for free.

Of course this should be explained much better on the coupons so you, the customer, are NOT deceived into thinking you can get a free Upgrade to Tiger….like I was hoping for….ugh.

A lot of people were frustrated with iLife '04 not being free. The previous version was available as a free download, sans iDVD. Steve said something like "if you can download it [iLife, not iDVD], go ahead, but if you're on dialup, buy the CD for $29."

When '04 came out the next year, it had (if I recall correctly) gone up to $49 and only iTunes was available as a free download this time around
