Would like to confirm compatibility before moving to iOS 9

Hi and thank you,

I am currently running iTunes 11.2.2 on a MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.8 and have an iPhone 5S with 7.1.2 installed. Everything is great now, but there are features on iOS 9 that I would like to use.

Will I run into any issues with syncing or compatibility if I upgrade to iOS 9 for my iPhone? I don't plan to move beyond 10.6.8 on my MacBook for now. I understand this is an old OS, but it works for me, and the process of ensuring my workflow needs aren't interrupted is pretty paramount at this time, so I also am wary of upgrading iTunes, though 11.4 is possible, I think, on 10.6.8. But will 11.4 run iOS9?

I've read a few threads about this, but can't seem to find a definitive answer. People come up with funky workarounds sometimes, but I'm looking for a straightforward approach. I appreciate your help.

My iPhone 5S, which granted I do not use too much because I have had both a 6 Plus and a 6S Plus since, is running just fine on it! I am not complacent that it does not have all of the features either, anyone expecting split screen on a 4" phone is a moron. I would say go for it, but if others have had genuine experiences with it being laggy on 9.1 then that's again your call. 9.1 was also meant to address this alleged lag, as far as I am aware.

9.1 wasn't to address the lag. It was already in developement long before 9.0 even released. The purpose of the 9.1 update was for Apple TV and iPad Pro support and the update to the Unicode (emojis)

9.2 will probably address some of the bad animation issues.

Indeed, the focus of 9.1 was to get it ready for upcoming devices. At least we can tell ourselves that for now in hope for a fix in the near future.

I don't think it's laggy and I'm sure I'm not the only one. The difference here being that I didn't start a thread titled "iOS 9 isn't laggy!""

Yikes. Well this isn't good news. But even here, I'm getting multiple experiences (and I appreciate every one) so that leaves me as confused/concerned as ever. Sounds like it may not be a good idea to upgrade to iOS 9. Is there a way to just go to iOS 8, which I didn't bother with as it had just come out when I bought my phone and people were having trouble with it at first, so I decided to wait until 9. That was my mistake, but is it possible to rectify? It's the wifi calling feature I really would like to use b/c we moved to a place with terrible reception. Or should I just hope Apple debugs the (possible) lagginess on 9 with my 5S using iTunes 11.4?

Do I just wait around until 2016 to buy a new MacBook Pro with whatever new OS is installed and hope that solves my problems, i.e. throw massive amounts of money at the problem? Again, thanks for your help.

You cannot upgrade to iOS 8 as Apple stopped signing it.I will make things more clear.If stuttery scrolling and some lag in app switcher and control centre bothers you don't upgrade.Otherwise the browsing and battery is much better in iOS 9.1

Just upgrade to iOS 9. Posts like these baffle me. You are getting a more secure OS and more features for free. Most of the issues reported here may or may not apply as everyone's experience and use cases are slightly different. Obviously there maybe certain bugs that everyone can replicate and others that affect a small few.

Take the plunge and enjoy.
