Is it actually a kit? I'm envisaging a book entitled "How to write programs for the iPhone" and a CDROM with the software on it.

Is programming for the iPhone easy and very UI-led or reams and reams of code where one needs a degree in computer stuff to make any sense of it?

Well the 'kit' is downloaded these days and comes part of the iPhone. Most of the tutorial/beginner stuff is found on Apple's Developer site.

Programming always needs code. How does any program work without code? Depending on the the level of complexity and features is how much code you will need to write. But as always, you can download example code to have a look for yourself. But if you're just starting out as a programmer, you'll need time and more time.

And an idea about an app to make!

I've never done any programming at all but as I'm unemployed I have time and more time!
