Would this be an upgrade?

As many of you probably know, I'm looking to upgrade my iMac to a stronger computer. However, I do not have a lot of money to spend, and after looking over a lot of of speed tests and reviews, I've been thinking about . . . a MacBook.

Would a MacBook with the following specs:

2.16 GHz Intel C2D
3.3 (recognized) GB of RAM
Dell 2407-WFP

be an upgrade from my iMac with these specs:

2.00 GHz Intel CD
2 GB of RAM

The way I look at it, the only thing I'll lose is the dedicated graphics card. Would the extra 1.3 GB of recognized RAM cover that? It's already a faster processor.

You could have a million GBs of RAM and integrated video would still be < dedicated video card.

IMO the MacBook should be an improvement .. unless you are into games.

Afterall the iMac is basically a laptop built into a nice screen.

That looks like a very minor upgrade, the marginal gain is low, and unless you can get a good resale price on the iMac, the marginal cost is very high.

Bad move. If you need more power, get a faster mbp 2.4 OR a mac pro desktop.

marginal gain divided by marginal cost should be greater than one point five. the hard part is getting the units to cancel

Yeah, I know that the upgrade is low, but I need a better laptop for school and travel than my trust old PB G4, and was therefore looking at a MacBook.

Also, I would gain some cash from it, due to the fact that I know some people who are interested in trading a MacBook + $$ for the iMac.

Seems to me that it's not much of an upgrade, unless you need the portability, which I'm guessing you don't because you're also buying the 24" LCD. Wait until you have more money to spend.

Edit: The fact that someone is will to give you cash + MB for the iMac might tell you something. Look at what you could get for your iMac and PB, and then get a refurb MBP.
