I would love a feature in a future Mac OS X/iPhone software update that turns the iPhone into a soft phone when it's docked with your Mac.

Picture it, you have your phone docked, it rings and the caller ID comes up on your Mac.

Photo of the person if they're in your address book with a Green "Answer" or Red "Ignore" Button. If the person isn't in your address book, one button will add them to your contacts.

Answer the call and use your Mac's mic and speakers.

Thoughts?

Taking it a step further, imagine being able to answer the calls on your MAC using the mic and speakers to talk.. Similar to tethering, but as someone else mentioned the logistics might be far-fetched

Now that would be neat.

it would be cool. but not really that special. is it really that hard to pick up ur phone when it's connected to ur comp? it's like a 2 foot cable, it's gonna be close to u. it's a novel idea, but I don't think it'll happen

You can do this, albeit not with an iPhone via BluePhoneElite.

Yeah, it's kinda redundant, but it's handy in certain situations if you're always at your desk. It's like a really good handsfree set. All I'd want is something that tells me who's calling me on my computer without looking. What might be handy is if it could do this over the network and say I left my phone downstairs and couldn't hear it.

that would be cool but you should also be able to use your iphone as an external monitor (for ichat or twitter or something small)

i think that would be really cool. jus like it can come up on some satellite dishes. i know that my uncle has a satellite that the number comes up whenever someone calls. although i dont think that they can talk to the oter person tho.

but this would be very cool.

Thirded. I'm always a little surprised by stuff like this, I mean, that's what the headphones w/ built in mic are for. Additionally, if I want to leave my computer while on the phone it becomes much more problematic than it needs to be.

Sorry, OT - OP, this would be possible, you're basically talking about an active iPhone simulator on your computer, but again, can't really see a reason for it; all the functionality you're talking about already exists on the phone.

Am i right that when iPhone is docked, its on silent mode? I think thats the reason why he posted up this idea...? Maybe its behind something and you cant see that someone's calling
