Would this ruin my chance for an upgrade?

A friend of mine might sell/give me his iPhone 3G. I wont need to change my plan or anything since I already have unlimited data. My next upgrade isn't until July of next year, would switching my SIM card to the iPhone change anything?

I just dont want to ruin anything!!

Assuming your on AT&T, no, this will not affect your upgrade. The only thing that would affect your upgrade is if you purchase a phone from AT&T at a discounted rate.

No it won't. Upgrades are for devices you buy from AT&T.

Exactly. The 2 year contract is required on upgrades for them to recoup
their investment in giving you a handset well under their cost.
