Looking at the specs for the drive you posted, it will not fit as the drive needs to be 5mm thick. Further, the interface is wrong. Apple chose to go with a LIF (low insertion force) variant of the SATA connector.

You're right. I missed the 5mm completely.

There is a thread where someone explains how to make a sata-II connector work by soldering the LIF cable in the MBA.

Out of the box, I seriously doubt that the eBay SSD would work without soldering.

It won't work. The connectors are different. The size isn't too much of a difference, since you can strip the padding around the hd cage for thicker drivers.

What about asking apple repair services to do the upgrade. From HDD to SDD.
If the HDD was broken, why would they not? They must carry the part.
Do applecare do after sale HD upgrades for other laptops in the range?

As far as I know, Apple would charge $1000 for the SSD.

The eBay seller claims that it is compatible but he is not going to provide you with the connector, is he?

The question is, why isn't there a third party selling these SSDs with connectors? Even if they were made for Apple, they should be available!
