I used neither, but it seems like a very bad trade for you. Numbers might have remained the same, but still everything has been upgraded in revision B - processor from Merom to Penryn, graphics from Intel to nVidia, RAM from DDR2 to DDR3, drive interface from PATA to SATA... especially the latter will limit any benefit you'll get from SSD in revision A. I wouldn't do it.

don't trade! It's not worth it. The nvidia graphics in your Rev. B are worth gold compared to the intel gpu in the rev. A.

Sure it's got a measly SSD and faster processor. But definitely not worth it.

All of the reasons you love your MBA's capabilities and performance could instantly disappear the minute you make the trade.

Original MBA refurbished is $1299 with SSD and 1.8, while your rev B MBA is $1799. So you lose $500 instantly over what you paid vs what you could have bought.

Hinge defect problem could cost you $800 to fix your MBA's hinges if they break as Apple ignores problem and blames owner for abusing/breaking the hinge. All hinge problems I have seen have happened on an original MBA.

Heat problems on the original. Loud fans on the original as always trying to overcome heat problems. Four times less graphics performance on original. Lockups on original. Core shutdown on original. Micro DVI cannot drive a large ACDs native resolutions. Video stuttering on the original MBA.

There are many reasons, but the one I would advise you of most, is the rev B MBA was compiled with components to eliminate the problems of the original MBA. It was a lesson well learned and every rev B MBA owner benefits from the lessons with an amazing Mac.

Finally, the rev B MBA just works, while sometimes refurbished original MBA owners have to tear apart their MBA to reapply thermal paste to lower heat and reduce fan noise. Most happy original MBA buyers have to undervolt ther MBA to try to reduce the symptoms of the original MBA.

Depends

If you do note taking email web browsing and SD video 360P under the REV:A is perfect if you do HD videos games or intense graphics stay with B A will sart apps a lot faster than the B due to the SSD VS 4,200RPM. (SSD around 17,000RPM? CORRECT IF WRONG!)

I can't believe youre considering this. How old are you. 10?

You need to get your head examined. This is akin to highway robbery. An SSD? you can install one yourself. So I dont see the point of swapping for a crap machine that'll give you heartache.

Just tell the person "thanks. but no thanks" Be happy with your Rev B :D

well FYI i'm not 10 and it would not be a 1:1 swap, he is ready to pay me the difference. and if the MBA rev:A ssd is still under warranty and if ever i should have a problem with it, maybe i could get a rev:B ssd from apple then ;)

ok sorry if my post sounded condescending. it wasn't meant to :)

if you read enough threads its very well known that the Rev A has issues. just search the rev A vs rev B threads. And No I very much doubt Apple will refund or upgrade your A if you're not happy with it as most of the problems that plague the A are not warranty related. More performance related.. Heat etc..

No, don't trade. As many have already pointed out, the Rev. A does not perform as well as the Rev. B, by a long shot in many situations. Unless he's giving you *a lot* of cash, this would not be worth it, IMHO.

I personally wouldn't do it unless I was getting $1500 in cash. Then, I would turn around and sell the original MBA w/SSD for $1000 (if lucky). Then, I would march right into the Apple Store and buy a rev B 1.86 w/SSD. That is dead serious! There is NO reason to so seriously DOWNGRADE!

You are taking all of the advantages of your rev B MBA for granted. Apple learned big lessons with the original MBA (unfortunately many of us buyers did too). By owning a rev B MBA, you are taking advantage of the lessons Apple learned from the original MBA, as Apple changed every major component because of the original MBA's failures/problems.

Anyone that tells you to make the trade is giving out bad information. Here is someone preaching an original MBA while he/she owns a rev B MBA. Has nobody read ALL of the complaints here about OVERHEATING, FANS BLOWING 6200 RPMS (sounding like a hurricane), CORE SHUTDOWN, LOCKING UP, VIDEO STUTTERING, and a BIG ETC?

This isn't just the "first batch" of original MBAs. People with Cool Book undervolting often still report problems of overheating and stuttering when playing video. And here is someone stating "IT'S PERFECT FOR 360P!" WHAT? ARE YOU JOKING? Maybe for the first two minutes? Maybe, FOR SOME, with Cool Book. A lot of people have reapplied thermal paste to lower the CPU temperature to slow down the fans. There are NO GUARANTEES with the original MBA, as there were so many problems. Every component is a constraint.

Why would anyone make such a terrible trade to get an MBA that boots 20 seconds faster? That is the only positive of this sort of trade. And there are infinite reasons why nobody should ever make this trade.

I do not get, how someone with a clear conscience, could recommend this sort of trade? I don't know how someone could recommend this without qualifying the statement and pointing out all of the potential problems of the original MBA. I don't get how someone who owns a rev B MBA, with the luxury of a problem-free MBA, could recommend such an inferior product without qualifying the recommendation with the known solutions (Cool Book & reapplication of thermal paste). And this recommendation was made without the notice of cash added - a $500 difference in the price to buy the two different MBAs from Apple.com. And how about losing nearly HALF your drive space? Anyone who advises this sort of trade should be pointing out all of the negatives not just stating, go do it!

I really really really cannot state this anymore clearly than DO NOT DO THIS DEAL. You will regret it if not right now, six months down the road for certain! Our desires for technology/speed/space all grow, while this original MBA is so limited in many ways.

Unless you're getting $1500 in cash, and a guaranteed warranty, and a problem free MBA, do not make this trade.

ok i think i got the point and I'll be keeping my MBA rev:B, the reason why i was thinking of trading was bec. of the SSD.

and why would i consider such trade, well bec. the other day i spoke with apple support and they told me that you can't ever upgrade a ssd in a base MBA rev:b with 120gb HD, so i asked "does this mean that i can't ever upgrade to ssd"? and the support guy said YES, he told it was bec. of the connectors and set up.

the only reason why i did not buy the MBA rev:B with ssd was bec. i thought if in a couple of months the price drops for ssd's, i would only regret buying the ssd model for so much money. but after speaking to the support guy of apple, I now regret not going for the ssd model :(

But does the base model do what you want?

Mine does, so I'm happy with it. As it was the base model here in Japan ran me about $2200, with the SSD model over $3000.

I would've liked the SSD model too, but not at that price. If the 1.6 does what you need it to, keep it and enjoy it.

An SSD for a rev B MBA will fit right in there. There is even a mod to make a Samsung SSD fit which costs $300. I think your best bet is to find someone who has a broken MBA who will sell the drive. Or somebody who upgraded their SSD to an aftermarket, even though rare.

Much better decision to keep the B. It is SOLID!
