No, don't trade. As many have already pointed out, the Rev. A does not perform as well as the Rev. B, by a long shot in many situations. Unless he's giving you *a lot* of cash, this would not be worth it, IMHO.
I personally wouldn't do it unless I was getting $1500 in cash. Then, I would turn around and sell the original MBA w/SSD for $1000 (if lucky). Then, I would march right into the Apple Store and buy a rev B 1.86 w/SSD. That is dead serious! There is NO reason to so seriously DOWNGRADE!
You are taking all of the advantages of your rev B MBA for granted. Apple learned big lessons with the original MBA (unfortunately many of us buyers did too). By owning a rev B MBA, you are taking advantage of the lessons Apple learned from the original MBA, as Apple changed every major component because of the original MBA's failures/problems.
Anyone that tells you to make the trade is giving out bad information. Here is someone preaching an original MBA while he/she owns a rev B MBA. Has nobody read ALL of the complaints here about OVERHEATING, FANS BLOWING 6200 RPMS (sounding like a hurricane), CORE SHUTDOWN, LOCKING UP, VIDEO STUTTERING, and a BIG ETC?
This isn't just the "first batch" of original MBAs. People with Cool Book undervolting often still report problems of overheating and stuttering when playing video. And here is someone stating "IT'S PERFECT FOR 360P!" WHAT? ARE YOU JOKING? Maybe for the first two minutes? Maybe, FOR SOME, with Cool Book. A lot of people have reapplied thermal paste to lower the CPU temperature to slow down the fans. There are NO GUARANTEES with the original MBA, as there were so many problems. Every component is a constraint.
Why would anyone make such a terrible trade to get an MBA that boots 20 seconds faster? That is the only positive of this sort of trade. And there are infinite reasons why nobody should ever make this trade.
I do not get, how someone with a clear conscience, could recommend this sort of trade? I don't know how someone could recommend this without qualifying the statement and pointing out all of the potential problems of the original MBA. I don't get how someone who owns a rev B MBA, with the luxury of a problem-free MBA, could recommend such an inferior product without qualifying the recommendation with the known solutions (Cool Book & reapplication of thermal paste). And this recommendation was made without the notice of cash added -
a $500 difference in the price to buy the two different MBAs from Apple.com. And how about losing nearly HALF your drive space? Anyone who advises this sort of trade should be pointing out all of the negatives not just stating, go do it!
I really really really cannot state this anymore clearly than DO NOT DO THIS DEAL. You will regret it if not right now, six months down the road for certain! Our desires for technology/speed/space all grow, while this original MBA is so limited in many ways.
Unless you're getting $1500 in cash, and a guaranteed warranty, and a problem free MBA, do not make this trade.
