Would Upgrading Ipad Air help in this regard

I use my Ipad Air (1st gen) pretty much only as a content delivery device but I do use it all the time, averaging I'm sure a couple hours a day. It mostly is still satisfactory fast enough in most regards except for this. When I visit photo-centric pages such as flickr and attempt to resize and move images around, it's very sluggish and often times Safari crashes and has to reload the page. My desktop PC has no issues with this. Would upgrading to a more modern Ipad such as the new Ipad 2018 make a significant difference in this regard? My only other real complaint is that some apps take awhile to load, even Kindle but once open, most of them still run ok.

Probably would help quite a bit because if I am remembering right the iPad Air 1st gen only had 1GB of ram. The 2018 iPad has 2GB.

Edit: And then you also have a much, much faster processor.

My recommendation would be to go into Apple Store or Best Buy and try the newer iPad to see if it works like you want it to work... My iPad Pro 12.9 is significantly faster in all aspect compared to the 1st generation... Good luck!

I was in the same place and wanted to replace my 2013 iPad Air with the new 2018 iPad. The base storage version - 32GB - is too small, however, and I would have needed the 128GB as there is nothing in-between. Instead I found the 10.5 IPP with 64GB being discounted now to $499 at Microcenter and go that instead.

Speed, most definitely helps. The 2018 iPad is around 3-4x the CPU speed, iirc, and the extra RAM is definitely useful.

That said, not all websites were designed with mobile browsers and touch interface in mind. I don't use flickr but I've had issues on other websites using JavaScript for interactive image manipulation.

Doesn't flickr have an iPad app? That's bound to be designed better for the iPad.

I think upgrading to an iPad with at least 2 GB of ram (this includes the 2018 iPad) will probably help as the 1st gen iPad Air only has 1 GB. I used to have an iPad Mini 2 (which has the same processor & ram as the 1st gen iPad Air) and always found web browsing on it to be a little sluggish. I sold my Mini 2 and upgraded to a Mini 4 when it came out and despite only a small processor bump (A7 to A8, which is actually a fairly minor upgrade) the 2 GB of ram seems to have made a big difference in its web browsing performance as even now with iOS 11 it still feels fairly zippy. I'm sure any of the newer iPads will solve this issue for you (including both the 2017 & 2018 iPads).

I am a former iPad Air user. I can safely say that any new iPad on the market is a good upgrade for it! See your current needs and buy accordingly
