The recent discontinuing of the 27 Imac 2020 has opened up the usual fire sale on Apple's refurbished store. One can now get a whole mid-model 27 Imac 2020 (3.3 Ghz, Radeon 5300) for under 100 pounds more than the Studio Display alone.

I was wondering what people think it's worth is. Should we just call it a day, and move to Apple Silicon? The benefit for me is that I am coming from a Mac mini 2018, so I would have to retire my current LG Ultrafine 4K if I were to get the Studio Display, as I can't drive both together on the Mini. Which would of course mean having to pony up for an Apple Silicon Pro machine to be able to drive both properly, as the current base Mini M1 wouldn't do it.

The great advantage of the iMac would therefore be the ability to connect the Ultrafine straight out of the box, but of course the Intel configuration is not that appealing anymore... So I am wondering whether current iMac owners would recommend going for one last hurrah of that design and architecture, or whether its best to just move on. Thanks!

Is something wrong with your Mac Mini?
No, but I would like to move on to a 27" 5K display, whilst keeping the current Ultrafine 4K (21") as a secondary one. And ideally buy new/with warranty, so that leaves me with the Ultrafine 5K at approx. 1200 pounds, the Studio Display at 1348, and the iMac 2020 at 1439 pounds. All with the same panel, more or less, but of course very different configurations other than that.

Recently, I also consider doing the same thing. It might be a used iMac Pro too still under Apple care warranty. With the death of lovely 27" iMac, now there is no mid-tier model offering best bang for the buck. There is no way now I can afford an M1 Max Studio + the display. I had been waiting for a redesigned 27" iMac since 2018 but greedy Tim Cook never loved this product maybe because its profit margin was lower.

Referb is even a better bang for the buck.
