OK, here's my Selfridges's of Oxford Street experience.
I bought a beautiful Diesel leather jacket, butter soft leather, georgous design. I looked twenty years younger. (OK, midlife crisis purchase but that's not the point).
I bought in in the Autumn and it was still a bit warm to wear it and I wasn't expecting any mechanical problems, it's a jacket for f***s sake, so by the time I realized the problem I was over Selfridge's 28 day refund policy.
The problem is that the metal zip is so sharp and the leather so soft that when I wear the jacket the zip scores the leather of the sleeves and front panel no matter how careful I am.
This was a really expensive jacket. OK I can hear the "who cares" vibe because me too if it wasn't my money, but I can't actually afford mid life crises and try to be selective about them.
Under UK consumer law the beef is with the seller, not the manufacturer, so you have to take it back to the shop. They were vile. Even after one of their jackets which were still in stock was produced in an effort to disprove my faulty zip claim and was found to be far more zip scoured damaged than my jacket because I had been more careful with it, the man (I can name him) was vile and refused to refund me. What really annoyed me is that I was treated like a total criminal, trying something on, because I had brought the jacket back outside the 28 day limit in spite of the fact that the label in the neck was pristine (I'd only worn it once because that was how long it took me to realize the problem) and it was in better condition than their damaged full price shop floor copy.
So what I'm saying is, just because it's expensive and you bought it at a shop with a fancy reputation, don't think it'll work and don't think you'll get your money back or even the time of day if you have a quality problem.
