The width of the iPad and the depth of a slightly bigger Mac Mini. Priced at under $499 and will power the most demanding studio headphones.
Exactly. I am using an iPhone 4 with a pair of Shure SE 530's and they sound rather good. Of course an amp would be better but I find it hard to believe that many to most people want to drag an amp around and be considered mobile.
It would not be mobile. It would be desktop or nightstand. It will have optical digital in also for Airport Express streaming.
I might be interested. I keep a truly portable one for my iPod/iPhone (Emmeline P-51 Mustang). Does this mean you're looking at putting one out yourself? And to the poster regarding Bose not being high end, I agree. Bose equipment is nothing like true high-end audio equipment. They just have great marketing to get the price they do for their crap.
Forget Bose, they are pedestrian hi-end.
Onkyo and Wadia are better and already make a bit perfect transport dock for the iPods. Still waiting for them to make one for the iPad.
However, since the Apple camera connection kit already allows one to get audio out, by-passing the internal DAC and Amp, it may be redundant for Onkyo or Wadia to even make a transport. Perhaps they will make a dock instead (which would include a DAC and Amp).
Used for audio, the apple camera connection kit requires an external DAC/Amp naturally. I have a Meier Corda Symphony Dac/Amp which I tried with the camera kit and iPad, and while it sounded great, I found that I could get more volume and sharper percussion with PC-->MeierDac/Amp, rather than the iPad-->MeierDac/Amp.
The iPad is great with the iTunes remote app though;,
iPad(remote iTunes)->PC->optical->DAC/AMP(or av receiver)->Speakers(or HP)

A Manley Stingray iTube should come with an optional iPad adapter. That would be awesome.

Umm, no, but thanks. Considering that is how much the entry level iPad costs (and considering that by the time it landed at a retailer here in NZ it would cost around $1000NZD) I don't think you would sell many. Unless of course it can be used with iPods and possibly other audio sources too - I could see myself buying one at some point if I could use it with an iMac and my TV (I have trouble sleeping so often stay up a little later than my significant other - but I need to wear heaphones so as to not disturb her).
