Would you buy iPad 6 generation on sale for under $200 refurbish?

I’m wondering if it is safe to buy refurbish iPad 6 generation for under $200? As Apple may only support for other two or three years.

It will stop getting iOS updates after the current version. iOS 18 reportedly required iPad 7th gen or higher. It would probably continue to get security updates for a couple of more years though.

No. We have a couple at home and they’ve gotten really long in tooth now.

You could buy a brand new iPad 9th gen for $230-250 on sale. That’s notably better than the 6th gen.

Personally though, I’d prefer to get devices with at least 6GB RAM at this point in time.

Not for anywhere close to $200. Perhaps $50, $75 would be reasonable for a 6th gen.

I just seen one for $140 last week. But the question is how long is Apple going to support iPad 6 generation. As some say iPadOS 18 may not support iPad 6 generation because of all this AI stuff.

Correct. Most people speculate the 6th gen will not get supported by iPad OS 18. We will know for sure in 9 days. IMO $140 is too much for it either way now. Not when a 9th gen can be had for less than $100 more.

Don't buy any iDevice with just 2 GB RAM. That includes the iPad 6th generation. Its A10 SoC is actually OK, but the RAM holds it back.

For an iPad, I'd say minimum acceptable is 3 GB RAM (iPad 7, iPad Air 3).

A6 - iPad 4
A9 - iPad 5

That may be right, but there is some debate about that. Some think iPad 7 will be supported, considering it came out in September 2019, after iPadOS 13 came out.

Here are the possible supported models:

iPad Pro (2018 or newer)
iPad Air 3 or newer
iPad mini 5 or newer
iPad 7 gen or newer

Well probably not a good idea buying it if Apple is not going to support it with iPad OS 18 in that case.

I would think price of it may drop to $80 after the Apple announcements on Monday that it will no longer be supported.

No. We just traded in my wife’s iPad 6 gen. It was sooooo slow. Try and get something newer, and with more storage than 32GB.

I’ve been using the 6 since 2018. It’s done pretty well, but won’t get iOS 18. I wouldn’t recommend getting one now. I’d say don’t go older than the 9th generation or you won’t get as many years out of it
