I want a MacBook Air, I like the gold colour so I’m looking at an M1, but it is 4 years old. On refurb store it is $1200 Australian dollars. For only 300 more I could get an M3.

would you still buy an M1? Is the M3 a lot better or a little better?

For a difference of $300 I would just get the new M3 version. This way you have the latest hardware and the software support will be longer too. That is as long as your budget can afford it.

there
The hardware on the m1 is the same except the M3 is a smidgen faster.
If a computer sits ion a box for 4 years, that means it is not old, but brand spanking new the day the box is open.

we need to clear our minds of such trivial and negative things and face reality that a un-opened item is NEW!

I have both M1 Silver Air and M2 Midnight air.. In my opinion The M1 performs as well if not a bit faster than the M2 and the Wedge Design is CLASSIC. I also find the Screen on the M1 is much easier to see on my eyes and the text a bit sharper. I custom ordered my M1 out 16GB Ram & 1TB SSD. Good Luck

Get the M3 if that’s your two choices. In the USA you can get an M1 significantly cheaper from places like Amazon or Walmart.

Not a lot better. The actual processor is the same for most users. The screen and overall form factor better on the newer M2 and later models. Another factor is the M3 is likely to have support for a longer period of time.
