Even though I'm not quite done developing my first application "Apper", I am already seriously thinking about ideas for my next. Right now the number one thing on my mind is an app that gives you lets you see the best YouTube videos of all kinds. It would show you a menu with different type of films, and then RSS feeds (or is it XML feeds for movies) that would open up the video in the YouTube app.

Would this application even be accepted? Would you be willing to pay .99 cents?

Tell me what you think! :)

very true

very true, but I already have most of the code ready considering my other app follows the same interface and navigation system.

What do you think of the idea though?

^ I suppose your right. Then again, what it will really do is find lots of new videos that you wouldn't have found on your own.

Suspect it would be rejected as it duplicates the You Tube app.
NOW if it were a lighter, Flashlight or a calculator its 100% assured to be accepted.

lol

^ haha thats funny. And that's what I was worried about. I would try to keep it away from YouTube though in every "other" way (name, description, logo).

The featured vids on the YouTube app are only a few, sponsored partner movies. This app would give you plenty of constantly updated links to the best videos from every catagory. 99. cents - sounds good to me!

Do you think that it would get accepted though? (despite the last post)

also make sure to read youtube's api terms as well (if you're using them). are you allowed to use the apis in apps that cost money etc.

it'd be interesting to hear what apple says though. i mean there's stock, calculator, & weather apps available in the app store..

Your app would be allowed, although I don't think anyone would pay money for it. I mean, it's a helpful app and i know people would download it... but i'm not too sure how many would be willing to pay even $0.99 for it. Ya know?

I'm like 99.99% sure it will be allowed though, because it doesn't go against anything found in the app store terms.

Nether did any of the other dis-allowed apps.

MailWrangler was rejected because it duplicated the mail tool already built in?
Yeah, so 34323234122 calculators are ok

Podcaster was rejected because it duplicated iTunes podcasting management?
Hello, that is a freaking DESKTOP app.

Netshare was rejected because it was 'grey' in use. Some carriers permit tethering others don't blah blah blah.

Polar Bear Search was shutdown by apple for 'questionable reasons by :apple: ' You wll need to read and decide your self.

So no you can't be 99.99% sure based on :apple: current record

Yeah no offense in my opinion it isnt a good idea, i mean a app that searches out newer youtbue videos? I mean, cant we do that already? With the youtube app we have. I dont know, I mean, I wouldnt even download ti if it were free. But there is a sucker born every minute, youre bound to make something, but the idea is okay at best IMO. Use your creativity for something not so crAPPy

You're in the exact same situation as MailWrangler. Except their application had even more different functionality. Yet they still got rejected.

Even if you change the name, description, logo, and even the look, the functionality is still the same. It sounds like the YouTube application only you're adding the top from each category.

Yeah go back and give the idea a bit more thought, add some more useful features. Right now I can't see anyone paying for it. Offer it for free and you may get some interest.

As it stands right now, I don't think I would pay money for an application that basically does a search in YouTube to get me the latest and greatest videos. Free would be nice though!

Maybe you could do one that saves different searches, does a search every X minutes, and returns Y results. X and Y could be modified according to the user's specifications. When it performs the search, it will notify the user with (a text message for now - a badge and/or notification notice when push notification is implemented). The user would have to choose about which search he/she would want to be notified. This adds a bit more functionality to your app.

Define best? Top hits? Top favorites? There's already options like these on the Youtube app. IMO this app would be useless, sorry to say. Everyone has their own opinion on what the best videos may be.

you guys don't understand - this app would find all of the great videos (including the ones that are underappreciated)

Also my new idea is that it would allow you to enter you YouTube username and it would generate your subscriptions, favorites.

I hunk it's a really cool idea - and who knows, maybe it will be free.

Exactly. OP, did you read this post? You claim to want feedback, but you seem to ignore the reasons this app will likely not be popular, if Apple allows it at all. Back to the drawing board.
