I've had my iPhone for almost a year now and I just got an email from Apple asking if I wanted to get AppleCare. I am up for an upgrade in March and plan to purchase whatever "new" iPhone Apple comes out with next June. So I would only need AppleCare coverage between now and June (actually March). I've really had no problems with my iPhone other than the ones everyone else have had (3.1 lockups, etc.). So do you recommend getting AppleCare in my case? If I don't get it, I figured something catastrophic happened, I could always just pickup a cheap regular phone off eBay until I'm eligible to get a new iPhone.

You can always cancel & they will refund the balance back to you. If you sell the phone you'll get more money for it because it has applecare & it's real easy to transfer to the new owner. Just sold my wife's original 2G on ebay for $275, it has applecare until 12/24/09. Sold first day it was posted by "buy it now". New owner told me in an email it was because of the remaining applecare.
5. Cancellation
You may cancel this Plan at any time for any reason. If you decide to cancel either call Apple at
the telephone number below, or send or fax written notice with your Plan Agreement Number
to AppleCare Administration, P.O. Box 149125, Austin, TX 78714-9125, U.S. (fax number 512-674-
8125). A copy of the Plans original proof of purchase must accompany your notice. Unless local
law provides otherwise, if you cancel within thirty (30) days of your Plans purchase, or receipt of
these Terms and Conditions, whichever occurs later, you will receive a full refund less the value
of any service provided under the Plan. If you cancel more than thirty (30) days after your
receipt of this Plan, you will receive a pro rata refund of the original purchase price, based on
the percentage of unexpired Coverage Period, less (a) a cancellation fee of twenty-five ($25
USD) dollars or ten percent (10%) of the pro-rata amount, whichever is less, and (b) the value of
any service provided to you under the Plan. Unless applicable local law provides otherwise,
Apple may cancel this Plan if service parts for the Covered Equipment become unavailable,
upon thirty (30) days prior written notice. If Apple cancels this Plan, you will receive a pro-rata
refund for the Plans unexpired term.

Do it. My sister had the same plan as you and 2 days after her warranty ended her microphone stopped working. Now for her to be able to have a phone call over 5 minutes she needs to use her headphones. You cab find it at a decent price on eBay from reputable sellers.
