The holes in the render are a less obtrusive than the Notch is. But the notch has always been a non-issue to me and it won't dissuade me from upgrading to the 6.5 rumored iPhone X in 2018.

The one thing about the holes that i don't like is that they are'nt all the same size. If they were all equal in size, i would prefer it over the notch.
BTW what happened to the ear piece speakers in the hole render?

Smaller notch like Huawei or holes is best.

The more usable ear space, the better.

Is this completely an aesthetic question? I ask because, I honestly don't care from an aesthetic view. But if "holes" somehow improve viewing angles and get around (or improve) other shortcoming of face ID as it currently stands, I am all for it.

Would you rather be stabbed in both eyes or have your genitals cut off? Is Apple that lacking in technological advancement that they can't think of another way? When you have to start choosing between holes and a notch, you know Apple is not the company it once was.

Neither. Not seeing the relevance here.

The holes is nothing more than a render, but I don't think the notch is necessarily lacking any technological advancement just because of the design. Outside this tech forum, I have have not heard any one comment or express their displeasure with it. I would say the experience with Face ID helps mitigate the Notch given what's incorporated behind it.

Can't say for sure as I haven't used either for any significant amount of time, but I'd like Samsung to opt for the holes, just to see how it's received.

Having both out there could make for a very interesting mobile market landscape & impact next gen phone design, should we not be ready for under-screen camera/sensors.

Neither. Not seeing the relevance here.

Did you forget you've already replied? :D

For practicality purposes, I don't see why Samsung would implement something as a feature to "See how it's received". Apple and Samsung are two different companies that have different features. You can't really compare that to the iPhone X being they are so vastly different in the sense of design and in terms of execution of security.

I meant for my interest in how its received, not Samsung's. :D

I think the more competitors go in different directions, the better it is for us consumers as we get to give feedback on a variety of decisions made by them & influence future designs, for our benefit.

Of course competition is imperative in the smart phone industry. But regardless, even with the competition, typically most consumers will retain the platform OS that they are used to either with android or iOS. As far As engineering and innovation are concerned, it makes complete sense to have opposing features/hardware both with Apple and Samsung.

But this topic is not being discussed outside of this forum, it's being discussed within the forum. And as a forum member, I say the notch is hideous. And plenty agree with me. And if you like the notch, that's fine. But ask yourself this, would you prefer the new age iPhone to be as it is now, but without the notch? If your answer is yes, then deep down you're not a real fan of the notch either. It's not an added feature which enhances the phone like an extra camera lens or glass back for wireless charging, its a compromise Apple had to make because it did not have the talent to produce an alternative to the notch. What I am saying is, an iPhone X with no bezels, no notch and with Face ID is better than an iPhone with no bezels, the notch and Face ID. The notch sucks. Simple as that.

I believe it comes down to the Face ID experience altogether and it doesn't supersede the appeal of what the notch is. I personally have never had a concern with the notch even before the iPhone X launched. But I do see how it can be intrusive when watching videos in landscape, but overall, that's not enough to displease me with the experience of the iPhone X. I also realize that not every feature and capability can be customized to what we like as a consumer, it's just not possible for Apple to please everybody, even for those who think the notch is an atrocity.

For watching videos, several holes might be more distracting than a single notch?

Human peripheral vision is good at detecting movement. Numerous holes would present greater opportunities for picture elements to appear/disappear, possibly suggesting movement. That could be quite distracting.

It would need a proper research study to be sure.

Njah! I want the notch and the hump (like in the additional extra battery).. maybe some holes too. I would be so excited and ”take my money”-metoo! <3
