Hello, I've been getting an used iPad Pro 12.9 Wifi only 64GB OUT OF WARRANTY (2nd Generation 2017 model) at $563 in India from a local laptop repair shop who also sells used Macbook, iPhone and iPad.

The shop has 4.8 rating on google reviews and like 150 reviews. The shop and owner is legit.

So, I'm asking for your input in order for me to lookout for the things when I go buy that and also how to be sure that this iPad hasn't been repaired by that local repair owner like maybe he opened it and did some 3rd party repair with not so apple components?

Though the shop owner also gives one month warranty!

Thank you!

The most important thing to check is if activation lock is on or not. If you power it up and the iPad shows a message that it’s already linked to an Apple ID, walk away.

If it looks ok, set it up in the shop to make sure it’s working ok. As you know, wifi is required to set the device up. Check the screen for brightness and touch input. Check the buttons for smooth operation. Check that the speakers work - play a video on YouTube for example.
Check if it’s flat and not bent somehow. Does it lie flat on a table? Do the cameras work - Test both with the camera app.

Buying second hand is always a gamble to some extent. Buy only if you feel confident. Don’t give too much about ratings on google. Anything like that can be manipulated.

Thank you so very much about the detailed guidelines and yes, I'll look for all those things.

Moreover it's unlocked for sure and the shop owner also gives one month warranty, but I'm really concerned about the fact that it's out of warranty and what if it stop working after like a month or two?

Buy it! Nothing wrong with buying a used device out of warranty. Most of the problems people deal with, occur from somebody buying a used iPad or electronic device that they cannot see, touch, feel, or inspect it.

If it looks ok, and works ok then definitely buy it for your self.

Enjoy, and good luck with it.

Also bought my 12.9 gen2 used over a commercial eBay dealer, but with a 30 day return option and PayPal payment (they refund if something goes completely wrong). The iPP was refurbished and also without warranty. The first one I got was a miss with a scratched display and a partly coloured screen and the second one I got was fine. You should also check the battery with something like coconutbattery. Mine was like new with only 11 cycles and 100% health. You also see the manufacturing date with this tool. You might also check the status of the iPad with the Apple online device check: https://checkcoverage.apple.com

Would upgrade my 12.9 1st gen with 32gb for 2nd gen with more storage for the right price and warranty in a shot. Love my device but storage a constraint.
